OK, was that an overstatement - surely it couldn't be that bad - but unfortunately it is. I should have checked the reviews below and other post throughout the internet before buying 2 (TWO) Legria R46 Camcorders and 2 (TWO!) Hp 7" Slates - oh an I also have a Samsung Ace SmartPhone. This software does not support the HP Slates (!) but it does support the Samsung Ace :-)) Happy Days? well not quite. I ran the app on the Samsung, it connected to the phone, and then after a couple of seconds exited back to the wallpaper/home screen. Not very impressive. Can somebody please get this app shutdown as it is a complete waste of space and mispleading in its advertising. Oliver Leamy

Just bought a nice new canon camcorder which is great but I will have to take it back and exchange it for one from a different manufacturer as I need to use it with Android 4.3. Complete waste of my time. Won't be buying a Canon again :-(

Ok. Maybe I missed something. I have searched the internet high and low for a tutorial on how to view the footage I recorded onto my phone. There are plenty of places to show how to view the footage recorded onto the camcorder. There are plenty of things to read on how to view the camcorder footage on my phone browser. Not a dang thing on how to view the footage I saved onto my phone. Someone please make a tutorial. And publisher-update for 4.3 for crying out loud.

I tried using this app with my Vixia HF R50, but no go. I found that I needed to use the CameraAccess plus app instead which works fine with my Nexus tablet and my Galaxy S4 running Android v 4.4.2

I am trying for hours to connect my phone with my Vixia R50. This app which is recommended by Cannon does not work. It wont open and makes the camera useless. Returning it and will never by Canon again. Gave me headaches.

Worked right away on the Sero Pro tablet, but crashed or locked up most of the time on the Blue Dash Music phone, both Android 4.2. Turn on the Thumbnail playback in settings and the app works great on the phone now too! I'd give it another star if the lag wasn't present, but both my Hero3+Black and Sony AS100VR do the same thing, so guess it's just a wifi remote thing.

Just set buffer settings to lowest so you'll have no problem

This app probably works on the 2 devices supported my galaxy S 1. Which really blows but you all gotta know that this app is only 1 feature of the wifi. You can set wifi settings AFTER you make your 1st bid. Read the pdf on cd rom drive. Starting on Page 136

I purchased this camera with many hopes including wifi enabled recording. It does not work on HTC LTE, I cannot download the app at all. For the price I paid, it certainly does not measure up.

Camcorder must be on auto, 30p, and memory relay must be off! After that was figured out it works like a champ!

S70%

While researching camcorders I read on Canon's website that their CameraAccess Plus app gives you all these great features including live streaming and it works on the Vixia HF R42. SOLD!! Then when I have the camera and attempt to download the app I find out out there is no Android 4.3 or higher support with this app . SERIOUSLY? Apple gets everything..AGAIN, and the Android users get screwed like always. Developers need to really stay on the ball and keep us Android users happy or run the risk of losing customers. SMH.

Sad that I can't use the full functionality for the Camcorder due to lack if compatibility with HTC One X +. This is very upsetting and makes me want to return the camcorder.

Was assured by the sales rep at BestBuy my phone would allow me to control the camera. It's the only reason I got the R50 instead of the 500. But the app doesn't work, so the camera is going back. Bummer.

I am no longer able to use this because I have a new phone. Why are you so late to update to current technology? This is frustrating. When will it be available for Android 4.3/4.4?

D70%
by D####:

Seriously? Are you kidding me? No support for recent android versions? Just bought a R56, which is released this year. I expected that it would support my phones and tablets, but apparently I'm much to modern for canon.

D70%
by D####:

I'm sure you have read about how this app is not supported on newer versions of Android (if you have a phone that is less than 2 years old then chances are it will not work for you), so I won't belabor the point. As far as app performance, because of the lack of newer Android support I had to load this onto an old HTC Thunderbolt that I have rooted to run 4.2 and I am very disappointed in how sloppy it runs. First off it is WAYYYYY slow in communication with my camera, I click zoom and it takes a good 30 seconds before my camera zooms and even with the refresh rate turned way down or up the representation of what my camera is seeing is so far off that it is almost useless for framing shots. Yes some people are probably going to say "Well what do you expect using that old of a phone" and I will reply that if they updated this app to be supported by the latest versions of Android I could use my Nexus 5 and that wouldn't be an issue, but from what I hear it is the same even with better hardware. Also contacting Pixela has resulted in no return communication, which shows that they don't care about this app anymore.

S70%
by S####:

Why is it my samsung galaxy s4 is not an option. This app is not available for that phone which has been out over a year. Total lack of support. Feeling forgotten an unappreciated by Canon. Trying to contact them is a joke. Canon lies because the product does not work because the software ( pixela) has not bothered to make it work with phones that are actually in use today. Canon told me to talk to the app people of which they can't be contacted other than via phone of which is busy 24/7. Great support!! NOT

S70%
by S####:

Works fine on a friends Samsung Tab 3 with Android 4.1 but really bought my canon camera so I could use it on my Android 4.3 phone which the app doesn't support! Guess I will have to take the camera back for a refund and find a company that do actually provide what they advertise. Very disappointed. I contacted Canon and even though I advised I use Android 4.3 they said "CameraAccess allows your smartphones and tablets work as the remote control of and is compatible on your android", so it seems even they are not aware of the issue. I've been waiting a week for a response after again advising them it does not work with 4.3... Canon have replied stating the software is nothing to do with them. So I spoke to Pixela support who said they have no info on whether 4.3 would be supported. Pathetic.

S70%
by S####:

So, you outsourced it and claimed remote control functionality for your most recent camcorders HF R40/R42. Must be a joke right? Ya, I fell for it. ** Why isn't Android 4.3/4.4 supported? 4.3 was released in July 2013. Anyone with recent Nexus devices, that would be what they would be using? ** Even looking at your supported devices/OS, one would have no idea if it will work for me. Totally vague and unreasonable. Why cant it be more generic like Android 2.3 and Android 4.0+ with WiFi functionality. What else do you need? The App crashes a lot, loses connection to the camera (5 feet away). And, it does not work on (R40/R42) in many conditions. Using external mike, using the HDMI for monitoring, using certain shooting modes. Yes, the Canon site does say that it does not work @ 60p but none of the other caveats. Neither the app or the camera gives you any hint as to why it is not working. I cant believe this app is being touted by Canon as their remote control functionality when it has soooooo many flaws

S70%
by S####:

You folks are shooting yourselves in the foot by not being more responsive to Android releases. It's ridiculous that a currently shipping camera isn't supported by the Android OS that's installed by default on many currently shipping Android devices. Worse, the current iOS app *is* supported on the latest version of iOS, which says to me that Android development is relegated to second-class status. So I dug out an old tablet and installed it, and performance was bad on older hardware. The performance was bad enough that making its use as anything other than a 'record/stop' remote impossible. I'm very disappointed.

Read the instructions when setting up. The camera settings have specific parameters. Worked great on both Samsung S3 and Samsung Tab 2 7.0 tablet.. Don't blame the app or the camera for your failure to read the instructions.

Phone right next to camera.. Can't detect camera. Why did I pay 100 more for wifi camera and it doesn't work. This solidifies my decision to purchase nikon in the future. What a joke canon has become

S70%
by S####:

Canon has out sourced and as a result has inferior product. Cannot believe there is no updates yet. Also you cannot live stream as canon states unless you are connected to the camcorder wifi. I was looking to stream to others also not connected directly to camcorder wifi.

Like your shiny new Android phone? Sorry, you're out of luck as this app has hardly any support. Chances are if you bought this nice camera, you have a nice phone, in which case you are out of luck.

Please update to Android 4.3. The app is useless for this operating system.
