2005年、当時医大生だった葉田甲太は、カンボジアに小学校を建てるために募金プロジェクトを立ち上げた。
ノリで始めたこの活動の中で、恋や、友情、社会の問題に直面し、自分自身を見つめなおしていく姿をリアルに綴った原作『僕たちは世界を変えることができない。But,we wanna build a school in Cambodia.』（小学館より文庫版発売中。）
０８年に自費出版された彼の体験記は、カンボジアという国に出会い、愛とか平和とかはよく分からないけれど、“みんなが笑顔になれると自分も幸せだ”と気付いた大学生の真っすぐな気持ちが書かれ、それが読者の心にストレートに届いて、ネットなどで大反響を呼んだ。
そして今回、最高のキャスト＆スタッフが結集、このノンフィクションをもとにした感動的なストーリーが遂に映画化される！
