JR-EAST Train Info for Android
The most unintuitive and useless transport app. JR need to scrap this and start from the ground up. Don't install unless you want to be frustrated.
You used to have the fares and most importantly, time schedule. Now, it is gone. Departure info is missing
What is this thing downloading upon startup?? Warning if on 4G ... it seems like it's downloading about 1 gb of data. Then it failed after about 300mb. It's a stinking pile of brown stuff.
can't even log on. can't use.

One of the best apps I have ever used. I have never been to Japan, but I love transit and figuring out directions. I'd love to go to Japan!
Mandatory download of additional data always fail, can't use on Nexus 4
Both from outside and inside Japan. Other reviews noting the app not working offline makes this app looks more like a joke then an official one.
Quite possibly the worst app I've seen. There's definitely better out there
It's very difficult to use. After installing you needed to download more information that took 5 attempts to get it installed. Main purpose was to get train time options, which I couldn't find
Very detailed and informative, but a light offline version would be nice. Also, if the run time speed can be increased. Thanks!
It's fantastic that JR listened to customer feedback on their original app and launched this international variant in order to assist people in their travels. The interface as well as the quality and quantity of information are everything one could want from a train info app.
This app took forever to open and "load" and then I couldn't even figure out how to use the app. I'm not even sure what the purpose of this app is, but I didn't use it once while in Japan. Use Hyperdia. That is a useful transit app!
My group made me become the Master of Train scheduler for our time in Japan. Without this app we would have been lost and wasted even more of our precious sightseeing time. So nice to be able to see multiple routes and decide which one would be best for the group. Also, very helpful with figuring out which trains and which connections that you have to take to meet your destination. We stayed within Tokyo but traveled a bunch outside of the viewable area on the maps.
No train schedule. NG
Search box useless
Tapping on the Search Station page in any location (search field, map) only results in zooming in on the map. I can't select any particular station or get the app to respond in any other way.
Error when select station
This app has potential, but making users register to collect data is pathetic. With other apps like HYPERDIA, there isn't any need to register, don't need current satellite location, don't need messy map to try to locate current station. Also this app is limited to JR trains and doesn't show other lines nor subways!
Really great application, and this is only the first version. I am excited to see the future versions.
Good
Brilliant.
Web connection required instead of being offline. Nice to have updated train information but not really what a tourist wants (if that's who third is aimed for). Having pricing information would have been great also.

Just like its Japanese language counterpart, this app is very slow and clunky, constantly displaying a loading box interfering with operation. The translation is OK, but with the usual quirks. Jr really needs to optimize this app, add more servers, or open up the API so let people can make apps using the train location data because it's a great system.
