SandScan for Android
Until now
SandScan has 3 major aspects that make the whole process a lot easier:
- A scanner that ascertains the chip name from a picture
- A fully functional Octopart search interface
- Integrated ecDB.net management
Chip scanner:
Simply take a picture of a chip, crop it and SandScan will extract the chip name to search. This can be especially useful for long and hard to read FPGA names.
Search interface:
Take advantage of the extensive Octopart search database. Not only does it return part details, but it also gives you a link to the datasheet! To make it easier on your phone, the PDF opens in Google Docs. If you don’t have it installed, it will load the website version, which renders the PDF for you.
ecDB.net integration:
ecDB is a new and awesome website that lets you keep all your parts in an online database. On top of that, you can make comprehensive BOMs for your various projects. SandScan lets you auto fill the details from Octopart results and upload them to your ecDB account.
Notable permission:
READ PHONE STATE AND IDENTITY
This is required by the ad provider (Inner-active) to provide advertising based on your rough geographic location (eg: the province/state you’re in). It also helps with targeted advertising. This is advantageous to everybody, the idea being you get ads for things you might actually care about, as opposed the usual “free iDevice” scam ads. That’s all the personal information SandScan gives to the ad provider. It does not read or give away your phone number, email or anything else personal.
Legal stuff:
Octopart, Octopart.com, PartList, The most exciting development in electronic parts search since Shockley was found doping silicon, are registered trademarks of Octopart, Inc.
ecDB, ecdb.net, and anything else relating to ecDB are trademarks of their respective owners.
Don't install this app its fraud
It opens my camera lets me take picture, ask me if ok or cancel.. When selecting ok, it just goes back to camera to take another picture. Back button does not bring it up either. LG G5
Best
It does nothing but tske pictures. The manual entry tries to connect to the internet which shouldn't be a problem on my phone, but it thinks I'm not connected. And the 3rd option requires a username and password, telling you where to enter them, though no such a place exists. Should've never been published as it is very obviously untested. Do not waste your time!
It's easier to look up and sort manually.
Handy tool for quick search
Doesn't work
Database error, cod not find anything
Maybe it's the custom rom I'm on but the camera app is standard and other apps use it fine. This app will allow me to take the picture but when I hit the check mark in the camera view to indicate to the app that I have the shot I want to use, nothing happens.
When using the camera to scan a chip it just takes a picture then keeps going back to camera........Crud
App tells me I need to set username and password in options, but there is neither an options button nor a menu. Maybe it needs to be built with a newer api level?
This app gets 5 stars for manual searching. Makes it really easy to look stuff up. I had two problems with this app though: 1. scanning the chip... simply didn't work for me. Even with a really big chip (Atmel 328P) with very clear lettering and great contrast it simply could not get the OCR right. 0 stars for that. 2. Installs on my RAZR MAXX and TF101 tablet but NOT my Nexus7? Huh?
I like this app a lot... fits well into any smartphone, it has become a must have for me... Getting out fundamental data in 10 seconds is quite good. Sometimes photo scan goes a bit weird (atleast off my sgs1 phone), but still you can use your good eyes to pick up part numbers :D
Pretty handy. I'd like to see the search results display the manufacturer. If I'm searching for a part that's made by several manufacturer, you can't tell which is which until you open the octopart page or the datasheet. Keep up the good work.
Good idea for happening, not for work.
Действительно мощная программа. Несколькими кликами можно дойти до даташита чипа.
Maybe its because I don't use the stock camera but it takes a pic and then....nothing, now I have a pic of the chip in my gallery
When using the camera to scan a chip it just takes a picture then keeps going back to camera........Crud
The manual chip search is very useful
Amazing
Subodh Amazing

Interesting The manual chip search is very useful

Can't connect to the Internet to look up the IC manually or automatically ,and I can't find the setting s menu
