Pompeii - A day in the past for Android
Doesn't work offline, even with the the Google maps downloaded. Also didn't read the phone's location properly, so trying to navigate by using location in relation to map points is worse than nothing. Day improved considerably when switching to the paper map provided at the ticket office
I found this app very useful as a guide and a map. Me and my girlfriend were able to use it for the full 4 hours we were at Pompeii to navigate, read, listen, and choose what sites within Pompeii we wanted to see. We started with the 2-hour tour and then added a few extra sites because we had more time. The GPS worked just fine, and we were happy the map showed water fountains and bathrooms. Highly recommend.
It's alright for the price. I'll not get to Pompeii so it's a fairly good guide. But the Guide function doesn't work on my download; so I'll probably have to uninstall and reinstall. But it's a big file so I'll leave it till later!
Since it uses google maps layer, it needed data to show the map, and it didn't warn me that i won't see it. It was quite useless. The infos about the ruins and the audio is good though
Tried the app instead of a tour guide. Even with location on, it was hard to find where we were or should be.Gives detailed info about sites but if you can't tell which is which, it's pointless. Also app closes when you want to take a photo. Made for a bad start to our trip, so we reverted to a good old paper map and found things much easier! This app almost spoiled our day at pompeii, avoid at all costs!
If I was doing this again, I would study the various buildings and sites before and decide where I wanted to go. Then I would use the map mode to pull everything up as I went through the ruins, letting it read to me as I was on the way. This is what I ended up doing in the end. Note that, as others have said, parts will be closed and you won't be able to get to them, so you need to be flexible. The Thermopolis is in the wrong place, I think, unless there are two of them. That was the only error I saw.
It was an okay tour...some places missing info..thats the bad thing.
App works as described, we didn't try the tours we just walked around towards points we wanted to see and listened to the info.
Difficult to use. Suggested paths don't make sense. Maps don't work well.
Really good descriptions of all major sites. Best part is GPS location tracking on the Pompeii map which means you never get lost going around the many streets.
Used it on my first visit to Pompeii today. Chose the 4 hour tour, which took me 6 hours to complete. Probably because I really took the time to process everything and some of the roads were blocked which forced me to try and look for alternative ways to get access to some of the highlights. About 3 the of the marked spots appeared to be inaccessible. Feedback: It would be nice if the audio kept playing when viewing the photos, if I could skip to certain parts of the audio and if the text auto scrolled.
The map simply didn't load. I ended up using the free large paper map that came free with my entry tickets. Useless app and a total waste of money!

Had high hopes, eventually mostly listened to guides of other groups. Map interface is clunky with limited functionality and it doesn't include all the sites. Map button on main menu works only for the first click and then you have to "go back" or restart to access the map. List of buildings doesn't have the Italian name which is listed on the buildings, and in general it uses a confusing index.
