About Sheba
This App aims to valorize the exhibition The Throne of the Queen of Sheba. Culture and Diplomacy between Italy and Yemen: the South Arabian collections of the “Giuseppe Tucci” National Museum of Oriental Art, which was held in the halls of Palazzo Brancaccio, in Rome, from 11 October 2012 till 17 February 2013. Its scope is also to promote and divulge, with the help of innovative technology and interactive capability, the Yemenite culture, the history and archaeology of South Arabian civilization, as well as the commitment of the Italian Archaeological Mission which continues to collaborate with the Yemenite Government to safeguard and valorize its precious archaeological heritage.
The visitor is taken on a virtual trip through 4 sectors which enable him to see unpublished documents that illustrate the historical events linking Italy to the Yemen; to admire precious collections of South Arabian art; to travel the ancient caravan route of incense and myrrh; and, finally, to appreciate the impact on the collective imagination that the mythical figure of the Queen of Sheba has had: and whose throne is now virtually reconstructed.
Available in English, Italian and Arabic.
The App SHEBA is promoted by the Monumenta Orientalia Association and it forms part of “Project Yemen 2013”, financed by the Italian Foreign Ministry in the context of a wider programme to support the country, to safeguard its archaeological heritage and to foster cultural relations between Italy and the Yemen.
