About MeshLab for Android

MeshLab for Android is an advanced 3D model viewer for Android. MeshLab for Android has been designed to be able to display complex 3D objects in a simple and intuitive way, allowing the accurate inspection of a 3D model through a precise yet straightforward navigation.

- Read meshes from a variety of standard 3D formats (PLY, STL, OFF, OBJ)
- Open 3D models directly from web pages, email attachments, DropBox or through file space area
- Navigate the model in a very intuitive way. Look at the videos in the screenshot page
- Efficiently show highly complex models.

This application has been developed by the Visual Computing Lab a research group of the Italian National Research Council (CNR), the same team that has developed MeshLab, the leading open source mesh processing system (the resemblance between the names of the two applications is intentional). We are going to add, in the next versions, more and more advanced and innovative features to make it become a powerful tool for the presentation, inspection, analysis and review of 3D objects.

MeshLab for Android relies on the VCG library and on OpenGL ES for efficient mesh processing and visualization.

I was really looking forward to this software. It installed a few things and then nothing. When I start the application the screen goes back and never comes up. I uninstalled and reinstalled just in case. No Joy for my Android. :(

Don't work on android 5, ministro not compatable? Make a standalone version so you don't need other software to work.

Ask for ministro II, which then says it can satisfy requirements.

Well, I see other people have the same issue as me, but cannot see any of the dev team replying or taking any action to it. Which is quite disappointing. I use a brand new S7 Edge.

Install was seamless using ministro 2. Not sure why they couldn't bundle the necessary Qt libs, but ministro works. After the libs are worked out the app works wonderfully!

Asked me to download some libraries and didn't do anything. Came up with an error.

Doesn't seem to work any more now that it needs this other service I've never heard of before.

Works well enough but I can't seem to get it to load PLYs that are larger than a couple of MBs.

Something about ministro dependencies

Z70%
by Z####:

There are dependencies, but installing them is a breeze. The first comes right off the play store and the second is downloaded directly. The program itself works very well with good documentation. I hope it continues to grow from here.

I could not get it to work on my Galaxy S3 or my new S5.

"Ministro cannot satisfy your application dependencies" wtf ? Goes no further. Says it needs ministro, play store offers me ministro2. References qt lib and kde lib but doesn't seemnto have been finished or usable. Nexus 10.

I like MeshLab for Android. But I really really wish it would have an option for displaying edges. I could not find options for various display modes aside from point cloud , flat and shaded. There are many other simple permutations ... at least one of which should involve showing edges in some clear way. Wireframe composite over shared or over flat would be nice.

This is difficult to install. It requires the Ministro service to find and download it's Qt dependencies (those come from KDE). That may require two or three attempts while it tries to work them out. No idea how you would back those up? Although the models included have the suffix .ply it will take .obj files. Those have to be place into it's folder before starting the program for it to see them. Having seen other programs fail miserably and seeing the smoothness of this I have no hesitation in giving it 5 stars. My Elephant was huge and it loaded it in seconds and rotated it smoothly. Next we need the program updated to do textures and then to pose the objects being viewed, and then to load two or more at the same time (and a landscape with a sky etc, etc.), and then some animation. So it's a good start but we need textures and posing and then rendering our finished result. Presently it seems to be a viewer, but you already new what the files were supposed to look like right? Now we want it to do something with the object? Still kudos for make it work at all, include the dependencies with the file and you have a complete program.

Cant seem to get it to work on my galaxy note 2. I did the ministro 2 downloads and nothing. Disappointed.

Y70%
by Y####:

Ministro on the other hand is having some issues. I don't know who's fault it is and I'm not pointing fingers. I used TB to freeze the states of Meshlab and Ministro (when their working) and if they get a hiccup, I just restore their state. I think that it would help to work out the issues between Meshlab and Ministro so that more people could use this app easily. Thank you Meshlab and Ministro for making this app free.

Y70%

It opens only the 3 models (rabbit, brain...). When I try to open my STL files it sais wait and crashes (Samsung galaxy s3). Can you fix it please?

Y70%
by Y####:

Easy to get going, a few extra things needed to be downloaded, not a problem After that, there is a black screen for a few seconds, then the app comes alive. Thanks for extending the Meshlab experience to mobile...

Tried to install it 3 times. Didnt go further than downloading qt libraries… please fix this. Asus transformer pad tf300t

Very good viewer for 3d models on android. This is not a feature rich app, but it seems to handle complex models better than other viewers available on android. Also, this is the most intuitive viewer. It looks like development has stopped, which is unfortunate.

Y70%
by Y####:

This app is quite good. It is fast, handles big models, and supports multiple formats, including color. You need to transfer models from another device into the local file system. The UI is intuitive, but could use some improvements. On my Nexus 5 (where it now works thanks to the recent Ministro II update), the text in the left-hand panel is too small. The buttons at the bottom do not always respond immediately. A button to reset the view would be helpful.

Y70%

Fast. Very responsive. Excellent multi touch controls. Very easy to manipulate mesh on screen. Looking forward to updates.
