About Midi Commander

Midi Commander lets you send MIDI message through a usb-connected MIDI interface.
Define the MIDI messages (control change, program change) associated with each button, and use them to change patches and control a midi keyboard or similar midi equipment.

After setting the EDIT switch to ON, use long click on a button to change its values and the transmitted values. Other functions can be accessed via menu'.

The latest version of Midi Commander (in .apk format) is also available here (in case you experience server problems in downloading it from the Play Store):

For further help, you can also access the app web page:

--------
IMPORTANT NOTE: the Android device MUST BE CAPABLE of acting as USB-HOST. So, please, do not rate the app with a low score if the connected midi device is not recognized: it might be that your android device does not work in USB-HOST mode.

Also, the MIDI device must be class-compliant (that is, no driver must be required to use its USB-MIDI functionality).

Here is a list of compatible (and tested) devices:

Finally, contact us for problems and bugs!!

--------
Known issues:

- If the connected MIDI device is correctly recognized (its name is correctly displayed on top of the window of Midi Commander), but the midi commands are not executed by the Midi device, try with a different ID cable number in the Global Settings (so far, we experienced this only with a Korg Microkorg XL keyboard). We plan to have the correct ID cable automatically set.

- We experienced issues with Clavia Nord Keyboards: sometimes the midi commands are not executed by the keyboard.

I'm still exploring this app but this is really amazing never thought that there is some kind of an app for android that we can use on my keyboard synth, currently using this with my Korg Kross, i use as patch favorite button at it works as if it's really part of my keyboard.. my only comment is the layout. I like the old one, and hopefully you put some description on what to modify on the buttons the knobs and the drawbar.. good work! Keep it up!

The interface looks great but since it won't function as a MIDI Client with Android 6, I can't use it. I'd like to try to as a controller for Fluidsynth running on a Raspberry Pi which is the USB host so the Android device needs to be a client. Humanic's TouchDAW works great but the MIDI controller function is an extra feature, and not the main focus of that (excellent) app. The GUI of this app may suit the way I want to use it better but in it's current state I can't use it.

This app is now my main screen. I use it with my Samsung Tab E in live situations, controlling my GR55, Juzi sound module and my Beatbuddy rhythm maschine. So much possibilities and control. Thank you for developing this app. I will donate!

so a really good app for using your android device as a control surface for midi and being able to send sysex midi message is a huge plus as it very rare to find midi controllers that will send it very easy to use very stable very flexible good GUI clear text not a battery hog really like the present option of saving knob or fader value and sending it out through midi i was using this feature to create patch on the volca keys which has no patch memory. a few features i like to see added : no limit on presets just 8 per project is not enough bigger or no character limit on preset names i would pay to have just both of these. being able to change the number of knob and buttons after a project has been saved making the transferring of projects from one device to another easier being able to store projects and setups on external storage being able to edit convert or filter out midi messages maybe even remaping eg velcoity from keys send midi cc1 (something like midiosx or midiflow) midi learn adding in a simply midi arp adding midi clock add a midi sequencer if all these were added and worked i would pay around $10-$20

EXCELLENT App - for controlling midi devices it's superb. I use it to control guitar pedal board and amp switching, for which it's ideal! Thanks a lot, guys, for giving us such a powerful app without ads or other annoying stuff. Now I've used it and have discovered how good it is, I'll gladly donate to it's ongoing development. Speaking of which, understand that the MIDI monitor is a new feature, but please can you have the midi monitor collect data while the other pages are displaying, so I can press a button or slider and then switch to the monitor screen to see the result. This would be an incredibly useful debugging tool, but right now it's not too useful as by the time I've switched to the monitor screen, the data has been missed. thanks again Doug

2013 Nexus 7 with OTG-USB to MIDI works fantastic for me. Also using it via OTG-USB MIDI cheap adapter to my BOSS SY-300 as a patch changer from my OnePlus One (CM12) strapped to my guitar. Next I'll try the XY to tweak the filters on the SY-300! GREAT APP! Love the simple UI, takes all the mystery away, no real programming required, just fill in my parameters, back to making music.

It's OK but I would like to be able to send PC messages to multiple devices (guitar pedals) on different channels from a single button. It can be done with chains but this is just too complicated :(. Edit: 3 PC messages is a step in right direction but I need up to 5 min ;) I think MIDI limit is 16.

Greatest app ever!!! Among other things, it can be used as user scale app for Roland and have "automated third note play" or "terca" and via midi routing we get additional real time parts on keyboard. Awesome!!!

I was looking for an android app like this to control the features on my Peavey AT 200 guitar. I had this up and running in minutes and it works reliably on my HTC one.

2013 Nexus 7 with OTG-USB to MIDI works for me. Runs on Nexus 5, but NEXUS 5 does not support OTG-USB MIDI, AFAIK. I got an error updating, but it looks like the Dev fixed it, it's working now. I also had no room on my phone, so I cleaned up old photos and made space, might have been that.

I installed Midi Commander on my Asus Transformer. I purchased a usb host adapter and usb midi interface with midi in and out. Midi Commander works fine for bank and program changes. Very easy to use. You do need to read your sound module manual to get the bank setting msb and lsb message numbers. I look forward to the completion of midi through so I can connect my controller to the midi in to my tablet and then have the midi data go through Midi Commander, out the midi out and into my sound module.

This app works great with my nexus 7 and does the job, but doesn't seemed to be optimized for tablet viewing, Looks a lot better on my phone, although my phone doesn't seem to support usb-midi. Also, I'd like a way to assign and send complete sysex dumps with the buttons instead of menu diving.
