خلاصه اي از داستان رمان:
هوستن، تگزاس، شهر چکمه هاي کابويي، بيس بال، سفر به ستارگان و … درست دارم ميگم؟
نه! غلطه!
هوستن شهر جابريل است. جابريل يکي از هشت خون آشام قدرتمندي است که بر سر تا سر آمريکاي شمالي حکومت مي کنند. همانطور که شما نمي دانيد، سينديا لايتون هم نمي دانست که با چه هيولايي روبرو خواهد شد. او خيلي زود فهميد که همه خون آشام ها قلب رئوف ندارند.


صفحه ي اول رمان:
چهار روز قبل
هوستن، تگزاس
جابريل در سکوت به آسيم، مباشر خود، مي نگريست. آسيم که با دستپاچگي از ميان دو لنگه در خود را به درون انداخته بود.
با ديدن اربابش پشت ميز تحرير با حالتي گيج متوقف شد.
بالاتنه باريک آسيم با نفس هاي عميق و تندي که از شدت هراس کشيده مي شد، متورم شده بود.
جابريل لبخندي تلخ و شيطاني بر لب داشت. با لحني بي حوصله پرسيد:

خوب؟

سرورم، هيچ کس اليزابت را در اين دو روز اخير نديده.

سپس با کمي چاشني چاپلوسي و فريبندگي ادامه داد:

و متأسفانه نگهبانان دروازه هم ورود و خروج او را در اين مدت ثبت نکرده اند.

جابريل با زانوي خود، فشاري به ميز تحرير گران قيمت آورد و پس از دور شدن، پاهايش را بر روي هم انداخت و با اخم گفت:

پس اون کوچولو فرار کرده؟

متفکرانه، چين شلوار روي زانو را صاف کرد. نگاهي به آسيم انداخت و گفت:

البته، اون موفق به فرار نميشه. اون به من تعلق داره و خوشبختانه در اين قسمت، قانون آمريکا از من حمايت مي کنه. اما …

انگشت سبابه را بالا برد و ادامه داد:

چطوري قبل از اينکه دير بشه، از خسارت به اموالم جلوگيري کنم؟

آسيم با همان لحن چاپلوسانه گفت:

من يه تيم جستجو تشکيل ميدم. او نمي تونه زياد دور شده باشه.

احتمالا همينطوره. اما بچه هاي انسان تو اين کشور آزادي عمل زيادي دارند، به علاوه اينکه اليزابت هر وقت که اراده کنه، مي تونه خودش رو به شکل يک زن کامل در بياره. من با تيم گشتي مخالفم اما فکر مي کنم که مي تونيم يک نفر رو براي اين کار استخدام کنيم. يک نفر که قوانين رو خوب بشناسه، يا شايد هم متخصص پيدا کردن بچه هاي فراري باشه. ميشه همچين کسي رو پيدا کرد؟

آسيم نيز به نوبه خود اخم هايش را در هم فرو برد و متفکرانه گفت:

اگر که شما صلاح مي دانيد، البته که همچين افرادي پيدا ميشن، سرورم. من با وکلاي شما تماس مي گيرم تا اشخاصي با چنين ويژگي هايي بيابند. اجازه بديد تا اين بي خاصيت ها يه کاري بکنند تا پولي که بهشون پرداخت مي کنيد، حر و م نشه.

شايد يه کارآگاه خصوصي.

آسيم با حيرت به اربابش نگريست و گفت:

چي فرمودين، سرورم؟

يک کارآگاه خصوصي، آسيم. اين خيلي عالي ميشه. تو، اون پروژه قبلي رو، در ساحل غربي يادت مياد که با شکست روبرو شد؟ شايعه که ميگن رافائل از يه کاراگاه خصوصي استفاده کرده. يه کاراگاه خيلي خصوصي. طبق اونچه که شنيدم، زنه در مقابل وسوسه هاي اون حر و م زاده کاملاً مقاومت کرده و تسليمش نشده.

شما ميخواين که يک کارآگاه زن رو استخدام کنيد؟

جابريل بدون اينکه به اعتراضش اعتنايي کند، انگشتش را تکان داد و گفت: Novel novel Jabryl (the second volume of the novel Raphael)
