حکایت عابد زاهد و زن بدکاره
عابدی بود که همیشه سرگرم عبادت و بندگی و اطاعت حق بود. به قدری در عبادتش کوشا بود که شیطان هرکاری می کرد که او را سست کند، نمی توانست.

النّهایه شیطان آخر نعره ای زد. بچّه هایش اطرافش جمع شدند، گفتند: تو را چه شده که فریاد می زنی؟
گفت: از دست این عابد عاجز شده ام! آیا شما راهی سراغ دارید؟
یکی از آن ها گفت: من او را وسوسه می کنم که به شهوت آید و زنا کند.
شیطان گفت: فایده ای ندارد؛ زیرا اصل میل به زن در او کشته شده است.
دیگری گفت: از راه خوراکی های لذیذ او را می فریبم تا به حرام خواری و شراب کشیده شود و او را هلاک کنم.

گفت: این هم فایده ندارد؛ زیرا در اثر ریاضت چند ساله، شهوت خوراکی نیز در او کشته شده است.

سوّمی گفت: از راه عبادت، همان راهی که در آن الان به سر می برد، چون عبادت می کند امّا آگاهانه نیست، می توانم او را گول بزنم.

شیطان گفت: آفرین! مگر از راه تقدّس کاری کنی!
بیایید قدر خود را بدانیم و در مبارزه با شیطان و طی نمودن مراحل تکامل تمام تلاش و توان خود را به کار گیریم وگرنه فرصت و وقت ما تنگ است و زمان مرگ نامعلوم!
