About Particle

Get your IoT project started on our Android app! Create a huge range of IoT products, from smart home products to commercial sensor networks. Easily connect your Photon, Electron, or compound device to the Particle Cloud.

The Particle Android app will take you through the entire set-up process step by step until the LED on your board is breathing cyan - indicating it's connected and ready to be programmed!

Our IoT hardware:
The Photon is the hardware solution for Wi-Fi connected products or projects.
The Electron is a cellular-connected board.
They are both supported by a comprehensive set of development tools, libraries, and cloud applications so you can focus on making your project work. The Particle Android app also supports the Raspberry Pi running Particle firmware. We also connect to connected microcontrollers from our partners like Bluz, Redbear Duo, and Digistump Oak.

Tinker, a quick start sandbox will help you get your prototype up and running in minutes. Tinker exposes basic pin functions through our API, allowing you to read sensor data and blink LEDs by just tapping a pin name on screen - not a single line of code needed. It provides an intuitive environment for tinkering and prototyping even if it is the first piece of programmable hardware you've ever picked up!

The device inspector goes further, allowing you to call functions and see the event stream off of your devices. Device Inspector allows you to dive deeper into your devices for advanced on-the-go debugging: Get detailed device information, read variables, call functions, and see your device event stream. Use Tinker and Device Inspector to interact with and debug your devices.

Brand new out of the box photon - sets up fine and connects to my wifi blinking cyan, only it f*king appears offline on this garbage app and cant interact with it at all. Tried reinstalling the app, setting up the photon again, unclaiming and reclaiming it, nada still offline. What a waste of time fix your stupid app

Much more useful with the new interface. Now I can check variables and execute functions remotely. Haven't tried the new setup tools. The old one worked pretty well.

D70%
by D####:

Love it. Love the new features. I can see and interact with defined variables and functions. Would love to be able to publish private/public events from the app, though.

This is SO cool! Thanks for making it so easy to use! I see lots of possibilities for use in new design.

Wish it allowed me to plug in a Photon and set up a WiFi login

Q70%

The Photon is great, I have two of them now, but the app isn't. Use the command instructions from a PC instead. Heck even then you will run into issues such as Symantec antivirus thinking the driver is a virus. So if you're new, prepare to pull your hair in frustration

Q70%
by Q####:

Why does it say "user credential invalid" every time i tried to log in. I got a new photon and downloaded it just now. Why??

My new Seeed L3D Cube (8x8x8 Full Color Kit) won't connect to WiFi. It says no devices found. I tried to connect with USB using Node.js but no luck. I can play with the demo mode but that's it. Did I waste my money on something I'll end up putting on a shelf in a closet? Update: I just tried to connect to the WiFi again. Now the LED is blinking faster than is was before and the D7 LED is now on and it still won't connect. Help!

Thoroughly frustrated Photon customer. Spent 45 minutes trying to connect using app, following online instructions, only to discover there may be an issue with firmware. (Per Sparkfun Community) Trying to load CLI to connect - Nortons identifies it as a hazard and will not install. Not clear enough instructions on site to using terminal. About to ditch the app and Photon. UPDATE: Can't find ticket support as directed at support.particle.io. No instructions to find Device ID... Abandoning photon... Not for.me. thanks

If u included a couple libraries like suppourt for LiPO charger shield and iButton accel + rgb leds btns would be wicked! tnkerprofile. if u have issues then seriously just stop with the human error, its not a toy, its a gemstone for pennies and genius design ironicly crushes script kiddy premature whinning all day long thus to err is human, a particle is a god.

Always says photon is offline even if it is online according to the web interface. The web interface isn't mobile ready either. I was able to claim the photon, but that's not the apps purpose.

Need to add ability to create customized labels for buttons. Having the pin number is great but I would like like to be able to add my own custom label as well.

Doesn't see any Particle modues. There are three of us with various Samsung Galaxy phones. Mine doesn't see them in the app but it does see them as WiFi a/p. I'm running standard 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

Im pissed baught 2 of these and this app does not recognize either of them it seems the makers of this product do not know how to program in anything other then apple products. Im using a samsung s5 running android 6.0.1 and no matter what it does not see eitherbof the two photons 8 do hope the makers of this product will have someobe address this issue.

This is so much easier than provisioning all the other types of microcontrollers I have tried. Occasionally there is an issue like somebody had already claimed the device and then returned it, but an occasional issue is sooooooo much better than other platforms that are really hard every time. If you have an issue that you cannot figure out then I would purchase a new photon. The next one will work and they are not too expensive.

Q70%
by Q####:

In reality of usage I end up using this app just to flash stock code from a crash, ie: while loop fault, needs the ability to upload a personal library of precompiled firmware. This app would then be practical.

Q70%
by Q####:

We've tried multiple different phones and this app is crashing on all of them. All I do is login with my email and password and it crashes!

Q70%
by Q####:

I was able to get the photon running and connected to wifi in under 2 minutes. Used my desktop computer to flash code and had a working prototype device in under 5 minutes. Awesome little board and this app did it's job.

I70%
by I####:

I had to establish connection to Photon via apt-get install nodejs-legacy & npm install - g particle-cli on Linux. Once all that was done, the app (on Moto X Pure 2016) interacts nicely.

Q70%
by Q####:

Simple functionality. Got my Photon up and ready in under 5 minutes. Tested the pin read/write and it worked instantly.

Q70%

App keeps crashing. Too bad because it worked great at first

Setup of new Photon devices doesn't work on the android app but the CLI, Particle Support and the Photon itself are excellent.

Q70%

Works great with my Particle Photon. It's stable, works every time, and easy to use.

I'm really disappointed by Particle's support of Linux and Android as a whole. I tried for over 20 minutes to connect to my Photon via my Android phone connected to my Ubuntu (14.04) laptop as a power source with no avail. However I tried connecting it directly to a USB outlet to isolate the issue and was finally able to connect. I have fully come to the opinion that Particle is a product designed for California hipsters who think that they are "Hardware Developers" by tapping buttons that only work on specific platforms. I have been far more impressed with my NodeMCU for the cost, the headache, and flexibility.

tool is not reliable. I have had for months and it fails 80 percent of the time. Server login consistently fails. I try to like this system, but it is not very good. I dont trust it, it fails more than it works. Dont waste your money. Buy a electricIMP instead or some littlebits.

Haven't been able to login for about three months now. On startup, after filling in my credentials, the app crashes... Go fix Spark!

Tried nine times to install on a galaxy s5 (very common phone) for over 45 mins then after finding an apk online other than play store the app started hanging up at setting up the sim and even waited 30 mins for the 'up to a minute' wait time for it to just sit there doing nothing. I backed the electron when it first popped up on kickstarter and after SEVERAL delays in production for the product, they could have at least made sure the dev environment was up to par. I'm starting to regret buying this.

The new app no longer lists devices in while setup mode (blue light blinking). After upgrading phone to marshmellow, this feature does not work. Yeah, i enabled permissions.

Edge 6 and photon. It blinks blue...which is nice. But I need a wifi platform and the forums weren't helpful.

T70%

Absolutely will not connect my Proton to my account. In an effort to make things seamless they have made it completely useless!

R70%

Was a useful app but after the last update on my Galaxy S7 it no longer allows setup of a new photon - when connecting to the photon it continuously resets. My other Android device with an older version of this app works fine. Please fix this urgently.

T70%

Would be really useful if I could check the device's dashboard. Maybe do some filtering, generate events, etc.

As others have said, app is junk and highly unreliable - appears to have major issues with MM. Got it to work once on an old GS6 I had laying around and then refused to work afterwards despite multiple attempts. App/setup is completely useless on my N6P running latest MM build.

T70%

It worked fine before my phone updated to marshmallow, now it crashes when it tries to login

Does not find Photon even if I connected to Photons wifi manually.

Not working on my Marshmallow device, can't find new Photon to setup. Please fix.
