About Muggy's DictBrowser Arab-Latin
*****DONATE VERSION*****
Help this project with a small donation, browse two (or more) dictionaries at once!
Muggy's Dictionary Browser is an innovative app which allows to browse digital dictionaries very easily and immediately, also simultaneously.
Actually, the dictionaries available are:
Henry George Liddell, Robert Scott. A Greek-English Lexicon. Revised and augmented throughout by Sir Henry Stuart Jones with the assistance of Roderick McKenzie. Oxford. Clarendon Press. 1940;
Francisco R. Adrados, Juan Rodríguez Somolinos. Diccionario Griego-Español (DGE). Madrid. Editorial CSIC
. 1980-2013;
L. Muñoz Delgado, J. Rodríguez Somolinos. Léxico de magia y religión en los papiros mágicos griegos (DGE an. V); A Latin Dictionary. Founded on Andrews' edition of Freund's Latin dictionary. Revised, enlarged, and in great part rewritten by Charlton T. Lewis, Ph.D. and. Charles Short, LL.D. Oxford. Clarendon Press. 1879;
Edward William Lane. An Arabic-English Lexicon. London. Williams and Norgate. 1863.
The dictionaries code is a JSON conversion and further improvement over the excellent XML-TEI code made kindly available by the Alpheios Project (http://alpheios.net/).
Muggy's Dictionary Browser's use is really simple: type the word you wish to browse for, without need to type diacritical signs nor special typefaces, and go! Furthermore, its interface design has unique features aimed at simplifying the dictionary entry reading (e.g. quotation and abbreviation management).
Muggy's Dictionary Browser is, in fact, a first taste of the HYPERcritical Editor project: a framework which aims to
enable also people not accustomed with coding to build up dictionaries and critical editions simply and intuitively, even on tablets and smartphones;
develop a browsing-editing engine very lightweight and compact, usable online and offline;
develop a GUI not limited from traditional paper-like page limitations (limitations that are still found in many Internet pages), simple, clear, complete, customizable;
make available to the schools effective, fully interactive, easy to use learning tools within the framework of the new Digital Learning;
build digital critical editions using a code fully compatibile with the XML-TEI standard, but improved and overcoming the actual limitations; such a code (the same into which the three dictionaries are coded) is a special implementation of JSON (for convenience, I will name it TEJSON);
build up by this code multilingual dictionaries databanks easily expandable and customizable.
NB: optimized for Android 4.4.x+, but working well (with some glitches) from Android 4.0.x on.
