لانتخابات المجالس البلدية أهمية كبيرة تستمدها من أهمية تلك المشاركة الشعبية في إدارة الخدمات البلدية إذ تعتبر المشاركة الشعبية عاملاً مهماً في ترشيد القرار الحكومي فيما يحقق المصلحة الأكبر للمواطن، إضافة إلى ذلك فإن المشاركة الشعبية تجعل المواطن في موقع المسؤولية المشتركة مع الجهات الرسمية وهذا يزيد من مستوى الوعي والمبادرة لدى المواطنين الذين عليهم أن يكونوا على قدر هذه المسؤولية وأن يؤدوا واجباتهم تجاه وطنهم من خلال مشاركة فاعلة بناءه تقوم على حماية المصالح الوطنية العليا والمصالح الشعبية في آن واحد فالانتخابات في حد ذاتها لها تأثير مباشر في إرساء مبادئ العدالة والمساواة والتأكيد على عامل الولاء والانتماء للوطن.
