About Omnis DashCam

"Omni DashCam" enables you to use your Android phone or tablet as a video dash cam for your car. Having a video camera in your car is becoming mainstream - this protects you in case of accidents because you have a video log of everything that happened, and you can show this video from the dash cam to the authorities or the insurance companies.

Why buy an expensive video-camera when you already have one on your phone, that records 720p or even 1080p? Use Omnis Dash Cam and an in-car phone holder (or adapt your existing GPS unit holder) and record your daily journeys.

You can leave the recording continuously on because it has cyclic recording - the video will automatically be split into three parts, each five minutes long. When a new file is created, the oldest one is deleted. These numbers are customizable in the options.

To start or stop the recording, simply touch the screen. A red circle means that the recoding is ON.

The recorded files are saved on the SD-card, in the folder "omnis". On most devices, the full path is usually /mnt/sdcard/omnis/.

A video of 1 minute in length, on HIGH quality, takes roughly 20-50MB of SD card space, depending on device and camera capabilities (a better camera produces a larger file). Keep this in mind when selecting the video length and history size.

If you decide to install this dash cam application, you're making a great choice! Thank you!

Nice and easy app to record your trip. I personally am looking for more detailed information. It failed two of my tests but really does a good basic job.

Just wish it would do background recording too. Good otherwise. I'd recommend DailyRoad Voyager instead.

After trying several all singing all dancing dashboard cameras this one does what I want. It is simple, functional and most importantly it works. Touch the screen to begin recording and again to stop - leave the rest to Omnis. Currently used with an old Galaxy S i9000 it is an ideal union. Please Omnis keep it just the way it is and not spoil it with more and more features like other cam apps.

But, it needs to be tweaked to work with the crap phone (DROID X2) Im stuck with for another year... GPS doesn't work, camera FC's. I give 5 stars because app is free, and I'm relatively certain my problems have to do more with Verizon and Motorola's Frankenstein Android os, and crappy hardware that is no longer supported by either.

this app is great. it lets you do a lot of customization to the video but it does't have a bunch of useless menus that you wont use. only complaint, no way to upload these automatically to any cloud based storage....drop box/skydrive/whatever. also another thing, back ground recording since I want to run another app that displays my trucks information (HP/Torque/water temp/speed/0-60 mpg times.if this happened, I would gladly pay for this app. Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 U.S. Version yp-g70

Works on Galaxy Note 2. No internet or phone call permissions required. So I don't know what some of the supposed reviewers are saying about ads. How can you have ads with no internet? The only thing is it stores on the phone's internal storage, not on external sd card. This is why I only gave 4 stars. If it can store on SD cards that it's a solid 5.

DailyRoads Voyager is much better. Its free, Ad-free, uses GPS location and speed too. Ads in Omnis flash brightly while driving and distract you, causing your eyes to look at screen. At one point I thought I was getting pulled over by cops as I have my mount right next to my rear view mirror. So much for safety! But if for some reason Daily Roads doesn't work on your phone, this (no GPS) is an alternative, albeit a poor one.

It reverts to the low quality setting when you try to record 720p on a Galaxy S 2. This phone is arguably the best (performance wise) on the market now so it's definitely capable of handling 720p. Please add support for this phone... BTW, I can record 720p/1080p using stock camera easily!
