About Lizard Island Field Guide
The data in this field guide has been prepared by the Australian Museum's Lizard Island Research Station on the Great Barrier Reef, north of Cairns in Queensland, Australia. It covers almost 1700 marine and terrestrial species that can be found in the vicinity of Lizard Island. It includes a wide range of birds, fish, and corals and other invertebrates. Most of the identification images are sourced locally.
Species can be searched for by name, type, colour and a variety of other criteria.
When online, you can also view distribution maps constructed from the records kept by the research station.
The field guide provides extensive information about appearance and behaviour of the species, including details on where they are found around the Island. The information remains accessible on your phone or tablet, even when you do not have a network connection.
You can also use the app. to send information about your own sightings, including photos, back to the Lizard Island Research Station. Record the sightings as you go and then upload them when you are back on the network.
