The Buddha is one the most influential figures in world history. The prince Siddharta Gothama, known as the Buddha was born in 624 A.C. in India. Siddharta lived most of his life in a palace. His father had ordered that he live a life of total seclusion, but one day he went out and was confronted with the reality of human suffering, disease, aging and death. At the age of twenty-nine he left the palace and get a deep meditation to achieve enlightenment. He became Buddha, a fully enlightenment being. His teachings are the main source of Buddhism.

Buddha is a generic name. Buda is the “enlightened one”, “the awakened”. Siddharta was the first, but not the only one.
