PATC Shenandoah

On my old device, the app worked very well. Now on my new device (Droid Turbo 2) I can't zoom beyond the entire Park view, search doesn't work, and you can't click on points of interest. I recall paying good money for this app. Please fix it!!

I love PATC and their maps, but with the lack of zoom, this app is useless on a smart phone. It may work better on a larger-format device. I'd return it if I could.

Nice companion to the paper PATC maps however with Samsung s4 you cannot zoom in as with other topo applications - limited zoom. I spent the early 80s with USGS maps and Silva Ranger compass so i know my way around in the woods... this app is really not much better ... BUT ... better than dead tree editions. I wish they would improve the zoom feature

I bought this thinking "surely people are overreacting." However, the app really does need greater zoom functionality. This app worked solely as a GPS locator to give me a general idea of where I was at on the AT. I had to use the paper maps to plan routes, locate water sources, etc. If PATC wants to push sales for paper maps, that's fine, but I'd rather pay a premium for a hi-def map package or something.

Waste of money and waste of space on a phone. Only covers a small section of the trail, cannot zoom in, awkward interface. More maps and more information are available on Google Maps if you just take the time to upload a kml or gpx file.

Full disclosure: I am a Life Member of PATC. I spent about a decade working with the PATC Maps Committee working on the maps on which these are based. The underlying maps are, without question, the best hiking maps ever made. However, the app developer has persistently ignored the need for a larger zoom for several years. And on most of today's high-resolution screens, such as my HTC One (M8) the print on the map as so small as to be completely unreadable without a high-power magnifying glass, something that is quite difficult to do when in the field. I purchased this app but have abandoned it as useless. I have been waiting for years (I have had phones with high-resolution screens for years) for the developer to fix this problem but in vain.

If only the zoom worked then this would be a 5 star app. It only good for a general idea of where you are. Looks of map tools that "could" be nice if zoom would actually zoom in to a usable display.

Love PATC, but without zoom, makes app nearly unusable.

First off thanks for creating this app. I also have the PATC paper maps. Please, however fix the zoom function. I can hardly see anything from big places like Big Meadows. I'm in Skyland having dinner now trying to look at the trails around here and it's like a tiny speck on the map. Happy to Support but Please Fix. I'm using Samsung Galaxy S5

Zooming was so much better on the iPhone. Please fix!

Size of text on map seems about the same as physical copy of map, while I wouldn't mind if it zoomed a little more, it definitely seems adequate. Nice to have these maps on the phone.

I'm not sure what happened. I got a new phone and reinstalled this app. In the old version you could zoom in much closer. I can barely read city names now.

I decided to try this app despite poor ratings. You CANNOT zoom in close enough to see anything. The text is illegible. I wasted my money so you can save yours!!!!

These maps are so well done, and all available offline! Very well done. Thanks!

Very nice overall. Except that the maximal zoom level is not nearly high enough for outdoor trail use. I imagine this may be because of the resolution of the maps themselves; they are shown at the maximal resolution. If this is the case, i would recommend allowing the (advanced?) user to be able to zoom in further, although it may not look as polished, being somewhat pixelated, it would greatly enhance the application's usability.

Max zoom needs to be increased significantly. Maps are nearly too small to read on high DPI screens. GPS seems buggy

Excellent location and distance calculations off-grid, throughout the SNP! All the AT and most side trails included. A higher resolution base map would be nice, but low priority for me. I would rather see many more hiking areas mapped this well.
