Swarachakra Gujarati (સ્વરચક્ર ગુજરાતી) is a touch-screen keyboard for inputting text in Gujarati. (Swarachakra is also available in Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Bengali, Konkani and Tamil).
Swarachakra uses a logically ordered design based on the structure of Gujarati script. Swarachakra displays the consonants sequenced according to the logical structure of script, phonetically grouped and arranged in a grid similar to those found in most school textbooks.
Typing with Swarachakra
In Gujarati, we frequently need to type a combination of a consonant (ધ) and a matra (ો) like ધ + ો = ધો. When you touch a consonant, a chakra with combination of consonants and 10 frequent matras pops up (ધા,ધી,ધિ,ધુ,ધૂ,ધે,ધૈ,ધો,...). The chakra gives a preview of the possible character combinations. To select a combination, you slide the stylus or finger towards it.
Typing conjuncts like ક્રિ, સ્થ, લ્ય is particularly hard for most people. Swarachakra makes it easy. First tap on the first part of the combination and select the halant from the chakra (સ + ્).
Swarachakra then shows a preview of all possible conjuncts that begin with that consonant (સ + ્ + ત = સ્ત; સ + ્ + થ = સ્થ etc.). If you need to add a matra, select it from the new chakra like earlier (સ્થા,સ્થિ,સ્થી,સ્થુ,સ્થૂ...).
To type a rafar (ર્થ), a rashtrachinha (ટ્ર), first select the corresponding key from the right-most bottom keys, and then type as usual.
Complete vowels (અ, આ, ઇ, ઈ, ઉ, ઊ, એ, ઐ, ઓ, ઔ) appear in a separate chakra on the bottom right. The less used vowels and matras are next to it (ઽ, ઑ, ૃ, ઋ, ૄ, ૠ, ત્ર ,ૅ ,ૉ). Numerals, symbols and rarely used characters appear on a shift. You could also switch to the QWERTY keypad temporarily to input English characters.
Installing Swarachakra
First, install Swarachakra Gujarati by clicking the “Install” button above.
Next, you need to “enable” the keyboard. To enable, open “Settings”, select “Language and Input” and check the box in front of સ્વરચક્ર ગુજરતી (Swarachakra Gujarati) in the “Keyboard and input methods” section.
Finally, click on the “Default” option in the “Keyboard and input methods” section, and select સ્વરચક્ર ગુજરતી (Swarachakra Gujarati) as the default keyboard. (Sorry, but that’s how Android works)
NOTE: Swarachakra is designed for Android 4.0 (ICS) onwards. It does not work right now on older versions because they do not have Unicode support.

it has great utility and its fluidt but it definitely hampers the normal typing speed avlbl on google/device key board to a considerable extent. the speed of typing as well as input response is also affected.

3-Sep-2017: I am editing my feedback. This app crashes frequently and all typed words and sentences will be lost. pls check app stability tests. Hi, I appreciate your efforts for developing this amazing app. But this is not getting of much useful for me. I cannot see the Gujarati fonts properly rendered. I am using Karbonn A27+ mobile. The complex letters such as "shra" and "ksha" are showing as two different letters sh-ra and k-sha. Help me to overcome this and I will give full five star ratings.

VERY HANDY GUJARTI KEYBOARD. but "script(in gujarat)" can not be written by this keyboard . i tried to write this many times,but after writing "s(without vowel in gujarati)", when i try to type "kri", it autometically erase "s". so instead of "skri", it becomes only "kri". and sometimes when i open keyboard, whole screen become black in my redmi phone. please fix these issues.

this is my first exposure to swarchakra gujrati. allow me some more days to experience it. At first sight I noted it does not have old style full stop of a vertical line. Am 72 yrs. old . have learnt from a Gujrati Marathi textbook reader in VJTI c. 1958. the effort is really commendable. i am a maharashtrian businessman conversant with Urdu , Sanskrit , Hindi , Gujrati scripts. can i have Swarchakra for Urdu , Sanskrit ? ? downloaded just this keyboard from play store for gujarati typing. and i must say that i wont need other keyboard in future. Its very handy, easy to use, fast gujarati typing, excellent interface, and many more features that i still dont know. I will recommend to all my gujarati fellows. thanks to developers for making the great gujarati keyboard.

કોપી પેસ્ટની બિલકુલ ઝંઝટ નહી! ઇ-મેઈલ, ટેક્સ્ટ મેસેજ, ફેસબુક, વોટ્સએપ કે બીજાં કોઈ પણ મીડિયામાં સીધું જ લખી શકાય! હા...કક્કો-બારાખડી પાક્કાં કરવાં પડે!! નહિંતર ચાર લીટીઓ લખતાં કલાક નીકળી જાય!!!

Swarchakra team, yours is a very neat concept done very nicely. Just one additional feature which you might want to incorporate. I use default Google English Keyboard and it is easy to switch from that keyboard to Swarchakra Gujarati (holding down "globe" button next to space bar for 2-3 seconds shows me all available keyboards installed on the phone to chose from). It would be nice if a similar feature was added to SWC Guj keyboard to change to other keyboards (Google in my case). Currently it involves going into Settings and changing from there.
