Митрополит Димитрий Ростовский (в миру Даниил Саввич Туптало; 1651 — 1709) — русский церковный деятель, епископ Русской Церкви; духовный писатель, проповедник. В 1757 году прославлен в лике святых Православной Российской Церковью; память 21 сентября (по юлианскому календарю) и в день Собора Сибирских святых (10 июня). Димитрий Ростовский прославился как плодотворный церковный автор — составитель сборников житий святых (наиболее известный, в четырёх книгах — "Четьи-Минеи"). Работа над житиями святых была начата 6 мая 1684 года и продолжалась в течение 20 лет.
Житие — жанр церковной литературы, в котором описывается жизнь и деяния святых. Житие создавалось после смерти святого, но не всегда после формальной канонизации. Для жития характерны строгие содержательные и структурные ограничения (канон, литературный этикет), сильно отличающие его от светских биографий.
Святой праведный Иосиф Прекрасный был сыном ветхозаветного патриарха Иакова, умершего около 1700 года до Рождества Христова. Родные братья завидовали праведному Иосифу в том, что отец любил его больше других сыновей, и боялись его, потому что он рассказывал им о своих снах, предвещавших его будущее величие. Братья решили убить праведного Иосифа, но по совету старшего из них, Рувима, передумали и сначала бросили Иосифа в ров, а потом продали купцам, которые с караваном направлялись в Египет. В Египте праведный Иосиф был продан Потифару, начальнику царских телохранителей и, благодаря своему уму и добродетели, заслужил доверие своего господина. Праведный Иосиф был удивительно красив, и жена Потифара хотела принудить его к прелюбодеянию. Но целомудренный юноша отверг соблазн. Тогда жена Потифара от злобы и стыда оклеветала праведного Иосифа перед мужем, будто юноша хотел осквернить ее. Поверив лжи, Потнфар заточил невинного юношу в темницу. Находясь в темнице, святой Иосиф Прекрасный прославился мудрым толкованием снов. Разгадав сны фараона, предвещавшие приближение голодных лет и несчастий для Египта, праведный Иосиф был освобожден и стал первым сановником Египта. Когда же на родине праведного Иосифа в Палестине наступил голод, святой Иосиф Прекрасный помог переселиться отцу со всем его родом в Египет. Перед своей кончиной праведный Иосиф завещал перенести его кости из Египта в землю обетованную, что и было исполнено при святом пророке МоисееЖитие.. Пророк Моисей (память 4 сентября), за 1496 лет до Рождества Христова. Через своих сыновей Манассию и Ефрема святой Иосиф Прекрасный положил начало двум коленам Израильским.

Metropolitan Dimitry of Rostov (in the world Daniel Savich Tuptalo; 1651 - 1709) - Russian church leader, Bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church; spiritual writer, preacher. In 1757, the glorified among the saints of the Russian Orthodox Church; the memory of September 21 (Julian calendar) and on the day of the Council Siberian Saints (June 10). Dimitry of Rostov became famous as the author of a fruitful church - the compiler of collections of lives of the saints (most famously, in four books - "Lives of the Saints"). Work on the lives of the saints began May 6, 1684 and lasted for 20 years.
Life - a genre of religious literature, which describes the life and deeds of the saints. Life was created after the death of the saint, but not always, after the formal canonization. For meaningful lives are characterized by severe and structural constraints (canon, literary etiquette), it is very different from the secular biographies.
Holy righteous Joseph the Beautiful was the son of the Old Testament patriarch Jacob, who died around 1700 BC. Brothers envied righteous Joseph that his father loved him more than any other sons, and were afraid of him, because he told them about his dreams, foretells his future greatness. The brothers decided to kill the righteous Joseph, but on the advice of the senior of them, Reuben, first change your mind and threw Joseph into a pit, and then sold to merchants that with a caravan heading for Egypt. In Egypt, the righteous Joseph was sold to Potiphar, the chief of the king's guard, and, because of his intelligence and virtue, gained the confidence of his master.
