An area where communication gaps can sometimes have disastrous consequences, is in the Public Safety Sector. Often the Visual Commanding Authority conflicts with Kinesthetic Demand for Respect. This conflict adds fuel to the fire of an often already life threatening situation. Authority is a need for Visual communicators, and Respect is vital for Kinesthetic communicators. Kinesthetic is the world’s most dominant hidden language and the most misunderstood in the United States. Since close to 80% of the world’s population use the Kinesthetic hidden language, understanding that communication style, especially related to your own hidden language is key for Public Safety Professionals. Knowing yourself, from your view, from the eyes of others and from your eye pattern type, gives you a very complete understanding of your communication style. Learning to effectively navigate in a very visual society is vital for these two hidden languages in particular. Knowing your hidden language; and understanding other hidden languages assures you greater effectiveness. Ask your managers and team is a great start. Consider asking even immediate family and friends to complete the questionnaire for your communication style, all helps you understand how people receive your communication. RESPECT is crucial to the Kinesthetic Hidden Language and unfortunately, the other languages don’t understand the definition of RESPECT, let alone be able to demonstrate it.
