Use a plectrum to twang the strings really hard, get the phone/tablet as close to the mandolin as possible and it works really well. And I've only owned a mandolin for a couple of days!

Absolute garbage. The tuner was picking up notes when I wasn't even playing, it read the same cord as the different notes, and in general just made no sense.

I compared this to a hand-held tuner (not an app) and the differences were staggering. This almost never got the key right and using it turned my mandolin into a sink of drowning cats, it sounded so horrible. Hand-held tuner it is.
