About EPA's SunWise UV Index

The UV Index provides a daily and hourly forecast of the expected intensity of ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. Some exposure to sunlight is enjoyable. However, too much sun can be dangerous. Overexposure to the sun's ultraviolet radiation can cause immediate damage, such as sunburn, and long-term problems, such as skin cancer and cataracts.

App is useful but prefer the daily email in the morning. I don't usually have time to open app and enter zip code in the morning. It is afternoon before I can open app. Too late. What has happened to emails? I stopped getting them 2-3 weeks ago. Tried to subscribe, unsubscribe and re-subscribe. I get confirmation email. Every time I click on link to confirm, I see a message that looks like it was confirmed. I close tab. When I open a new Google tab, there is a CDX error so I assume my confirmation didn't work. I've sent email inquiry but have't received a response back.

Have used it for years to avoid getting burned. Not pretty, but does what it says! Best part, minimal PERMISSION requirements. Free + no ads! Also works based on zipcode or GPS. Finally has an option to see 4-day forecast map, too the image is soo small and national.

It's not much more than a link to the EPA webpage. Simple. Shame it's not more. A widget would be great.

T70%
by T####:

While it does do what it says just fine, it would be a lot better if it would just remember the zip code that gets entered.

L70%

It's obvious development has ended with this app, so you might want to pull the plug.

I had this app on my Galaxy S3 and now that I have an S5, I re-downloaded it, it does find my location successfully but where is the menu to see the hourly chart???

T70%
by T####:

Force closes at splash screen. No widget (to check UVI at a glance). Will update rating if I can ever get it open.

F70%
by F####:

Doesn't seem like it really even works . Confusing.

It gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling to see the government do something like this, but the usefulness of this app could be greatly improved if it was more than just a web wrapper. I think the addition of notifications would be particularly useful. Give us an alert when the UV index is high!

No matter where I am i know the sun index. Government at its finest.

D70%

Showed no changes to UV index all day, had to enter my location each time I tried to use it, no widget. I might as well just Google the UV index; at least then I'll get accurate information for basically the same amount of effort that it took to use this app. Uninstalling.

Thank you for the galaxy fix, works fantastic now!:)

D70%

I work outside most of the year and this app helps me fine tune my daily schedule and stay out of the sun to the best of my ability

L70%
by L####:

Not the most elegant app, but it gives me the information that I need, which is the hourly UV forecast!

D70%
by D####:

I have to enter zip code every time

D70%

Does what its supposed to. However, I only downloaded it to port it to Windows Phone, ergo the one star. Too many developers skip over WinPhone sadly.

D70%
by D####:

It's a good app, but it would be a whole lot better if you could save your location rather than having to type it in every time.

Feels like they just loaded a webpage in a jframe... but I guess it gives me what I want to know so it's alright.

Play store screenshots show forecast features. In reality app doesn't forecast.

X70%

Doesn't work in Nexus 7, please advice

Y70%
by Y####:

It typically inflates the rating and no real time info like coppertone app. People need to learn how to read and use this app. It works and gives daily high, hourly estimates. The hourly info is hidden which is why the GUI sucks.

F70%
by F####:

Then, it didn't, typical for a government agency!

Free. (ehem, tax dollars). Not pretty, but does what it says! Three stars. Best part, minimal PERMISSION requirements (extra star), and NO ADS (extra star). Also works based on zipcode or GPS. Finally has an option to see 4-day forecast map, too the image is soo small and national. I'm on android 4.1 (jelly bean) -- samsun galaxy nexus. fwiw, it wasn't working last month when I originally installed.

Just says loading but never loads. HTC thunderbolt

Shows the uv index, but looks pretty crappy. At least it works.
