Kana Town: Learn Japanese, Hiragana & Katakana

Good way to test your memory of kanas. Found out that hiragana 'ri' that looks almost like its katakana counterpart is acceptable after a bit of research. Got confused a bit at first. Response to dev: I actually changed the stars to 5. I guess google really likes bugs in their systems. Thanks for replying to let me know that the rating change didn't save.

It's a great app, both attractive and functional. The reason I didn't rate 5 stars is because it is missing the option to practice reading Japanese words. Reading English words and translating to Japanese is not enough for proper memorization of the kana sequences.

The new update took about 2 seconds to get used to. Being able to study both hiragana and katakana at the same time is a nice edition. The app looks much more slick and professional. Thanks for this.

It was really great except for the part where "hu" became "fu" and Hiragana's "ri" became unrecognizable. I would also appreciate font options to be able to match our teacher's handwriting.

I'd give 5 stars but after the recent update the design looks so lame. The earlier one was simple and better.

I absolutly love this app! It has both katakana and hiragana. And also vocabulary. (Tho you need to pay for anything beyond the most basic, but it's cheap enough.) The only downside is that it doesn't have a way to practise -writing- the kana yourself. Only learning to recognize them. It would have been nice if it added a way to draw them, since, I mean, most people have apps on things with a touch screen these days, it should be easy enough.

Duolingo was alright for learning vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar, but mediocre at teaching hiragana and katakana in a way that makes you actually learn them. I used Duolingo's Japanese course for about a month and a half straight and still didn't quite know each character. After using this app for about a total of 2 hours, I confidently know each hiragana character. This app is very useful.

*sigh* It's unusable now. You can't scroll through long lists without it stuttering so hard it freezes. It's not my phone. Every other app works fine. Devs want to argue that I'm wrong, so I'm uninstalling. One day I'll find a kana and vocab app that works. *sigh* So sick of this.

The flashcards are everything I've been looking for. I love that I can pick and choose based on my needs. Duolingo, eat your heart out

I love that you can select which characters to practice, so you can phase in additional sets over time. I'm using this in conjunction with Duolingo and I feel like this is significantly more in-depth for learning the letters. I wish it had a drawing option!

I really like the Japanese language and wanted to learn it. I looked on the app store and found this app... it was almost perfect. It was able to teach me to recognize hiragana and katakana, but alas there was no speech and I couldn't tell how to say them. Plz, add speech to ur app. Thnx

Absolutely love this app. I am learning arabic on the side as well as Japanese. This app provides me a way to review hiragana and katakana without having to go back through all my books. Amazing!

Im loving this! Im wanting to learn hiragana abd katakana so i can learn to read basic words, and this app is really helping! Studying for around 30 min to an hour a day for 3 days has gotton me to the halfway point on hiragana, and i can already read simple words! This app is great, my friend wants a korean version since shes seen how quickly im learning!

Amazing app! EXACTLY what I was looking for. This is basically flashcards in the form of an app. Please don't be like other apps and make unnecessary changes, this app is PERFECT the way it is. Thank you!!

I think this app does a lot of things right! I am only missing a function to test along all for the vowel sounds (vertical in the app)

This app is amazing if you want to start learning (hiragana katakana) Its very easy to use so simple, I really recommend try it out its very good.

Great for learning the characters. Haven't tried vocabulary yet, not sure if I will, but won't hold that against it.

Works well. It would be great if there was more time options to try to answer the list, but I can always set a timer seperate from the app.

Does what it says on the tin. Simple but effective flash card game. Really helped me catch up in the Japanese class I joined late!

Great little app for hiragana and katakana! I would recommend looking up a pronunciation video to go along with these as you test yourself.

The app works on the simple see the character type the sound principle, but it works smoothly an complimants the other resources I am using nicely

With out this app I don't think I would have learned how to read Japanese. So yes it's a really good app

Somewhat bare bones but excellent, great for quick review. Exactly what I wanted for kana.
