Ruler for Android
Handy app for small measurements (the size of your phone). The way it works is there's a ruler on the top part of the phone and a ruler on the side part of the phone. When you want to meassure something, put the screen with the ruler markings next to the item you want to measure, then move the line or the half-circle (at the end of the line away from the corresponding ruler marks) forwards or backwards or up and down respectively; the measurements then appears in the half circle. Can only measure items the size of your phone screen.
It does exactly what it claims to do. It has saved me in a lot of situations where I don't have any access to a ruler or tape measure. It's also nice to be able to quickly pop this app open to figure out some something's measurement in both inches and millimeters. Very handy!
I'd like to suggest a feature where you drag your phone along the length you want to measure but you keep a finger tapped on the screen (your hand is fixed on the object you are measuring), and the ruller on the screen slides along with the point of touch. Your finger touch will be a refference point for the extended measure. This way we can measure things longer than our screens. I'd find this useful when measuring my windshield wipers when I need to replace them.
Its a great addition to anybody's pocket. You never know when you need to measure something. One flaw in it is auto-rotate. If you try to set the edge on your work, the measure will flip to the opposite side. Other than that, you sight down the border & then drag the hairline to the target spot. It also gives you a fractional readout of that measurement. KEWL. "General" of Choo Choo town.
It's a simple, straight forward app. I found it wasn't exactly right on my phone, so I clicked on the menu and sure enough there was a "calibrate" choice. I clicked on that and found I could easily drag the app's ruler to match my own. Simple and works great!
This app has a history, metric and imperial scales, nightime mode, easy calibration and more. Worth my 5* rating a tiny bugbear when first using, there is no options button, for options you tap the middle of the screen. Pro version with no ads is cheap so thats a big plus.
Only one thing needs improvement. It should be possible to use two different units on opposite edges of the phone. The semi-circle can be shifted towards the middle in that situation.
Great and simple. One suggestion: make calibration ruler as long as possible (ie longer than 5cm), and scale calibration dragging so a larger finger movement results in small change in the calibration, to allow more accurate calibration for clumsy fingers. Maybe add default calibration for more devices. I had to recalibrate for my Note5. Otherwise excellent.
Awesome awesome awesome! It works great! I like how you can drag the dot where the horizontal & vertical lines meet so you can see how big (for example) a 2x3 picture would be, without having to imagine the invisible lines. Magic...nuff said ;-)
Great app! Just one suggestion for an improvement. Can you please add two pointers for each axis? Now I have to measure each dimension with respect to top-left corner point of the screen. Placing a thing accurately on that corner is bit difficult. So it's better to have two pointers on each axis which can be adjusted according to size of objects.
I didn't expect to use this much but keep finding unexpected uses for it when I'm nowhere near a ruler or tape measure. Has been invaluable and will always be on my phone! Does what I need and is always to hand.
This app is sure as hell not good for anything like engineering due to the margin of error, but it's very helpful at times when you just need an approximate measurment within a milimeter. Easy to set up, easy to use, and easy to read. Comes in very handy as a reference for when designing 3d models too.
Does exactly what it says it does, and it's easy to calibrate. Some of the bad reviews are obviously from people who are a card short of a full deck.
I do a lot of online shopping for crafting supplies, this app has been a God send in helping me get a visual idea of what size an item might be. I even used it to mark my physical ruler when it's measurements lines didn't have the ability to get me the exact measurement I needed. Just laid it on the app, lined it up and marked off where the line was. Perfect every time!
Practically Perfect in every way! The next best thing to having a carpetbag with a ruler (ala Mary Poppins), is having this app! ???? I use it to measure my crochet work. It's especially useful when I'm out and about. With lots of cool features and no annoying ads and bugs, it's definitely worth having. I wholeheartedly recommend it.
Nice UI, but I need more. Like grid mode. and If I using phone like samsung s8+ that has 3D screen. I will need two more reference line. And zero adjustment. Because the screen edge is 3D curve and seen not accurate on this app.
It's ok. I can see some use for it, but I have two concerns. One: It's difficult to measure an item if it can't be placed on the phone screen. Two: You can choose two options for measuring using inches, fractional such as 1/2, or decimal such as 0.5. But the history saves them as decimal regardless. So unless you know that 5/8 is 0.625 in decimal form you'll need to do a conversion when accessing the history for past measurements. These two annoyances warrant a 3 star. If fixed I'd give it a 5.
Where's my soft buttons gone at the bottom of the screen, so I can use my phone again without rebooting! I managed to force it via a somewhat roundabout way.. Not cool. Android 5.1.1 Xperia Z (C6603). Pet peeve (I've been doing software development for over 35 years. Yawn I know) Suggest that you deploy a test team (your mates maybe) with a variety of phones *before* you release and risk poor reviews. Just a thought. Please understand where I'm coming from, I'm Just trying to help. If you do this then maybe I'll buy you a beer. Looking forward to hearing from you :-)
Awesome app. Simple and useful. It would be handy to be able to set the zero reference point (at about 0.2cm from edges) as it is difficult to use the app especially on curved screen phones (Samsung) plus at times due to high contrast screens is difficult to tell exactly where the screen ends (yes, I could use the light ruler instead of the black one, but I prefer to save battery) Thank you very much :)
Fantastic! I installed this tiny thing and it's deviance is < 1 %, out of the box!! Nevertheless, menu and calibration function are intuitively self-explanatory. On my way to the hardware store... full score!!
NO ADS! Yay! no annoying bs to fk up your measurements.. Working on an antenna project so hope its accurate! So far so good.
The measurement was not accurate when i checked with a ruler. Im using a Galaxy S7 Active
Absolutely simple, accurate and effective. No ads and only a donate option that isn't forced upon you. A solid 5 star simplistic mobile app.
I am sure this works just as it should, based off of the numerous excellent reviews. For me, however, I need more info/help options as to how you are supposed to actually use the ruler to measure an item. Let's just say as an example that I wanted to measure the length of a dart. How would I go about doing this with this app? There are calibration help options, but there are no actual help options as far as how to simply use the app. I feel like I'm definitely missing something, lol. Please advise...
Seems to do the job well... Up to 4 inches. I understand I could keep moving my phone and tally the numbers but I had hoped I could tap a point on the ruler move my phone or slide the ruler and it would keep tally for me. Don't know if any other app does that, but I'm about to go find out. If not, these guys should add that feature. It would be a nice addition.
This app makes its way onto every phone I use. It just does what I need without any fuss and comes handy all the time. How else are you going to measure how fat your fingers are so you can buy a ring on eBay on the go, right?
The app works really well, and is really cleanly designed. It doesn't push ads at you but does allow you to donate if you wish. It does allow calibration, which is a must if you want accurate measurements. I wish it allowed you to a select calibration length when using a ruler though. My oneplus one screen is way bigger than 2 inches, so calibrating that way leaves a wide margin to extrapolate. Still 5 stars :)
It seems easy & straight forward except for when you are done, it's not easy to get out of it. I must tap tap tap until I get my device home options to be able to hop off to another app, or just kill it. A simple X button of sort would be simple and easier, wouldn't it?
Well done, Dev. Thanks for the dark/high contrast option, brilliant for those of us who are a little more than 20 years old with a little less than 20/20 vision. Easy to calibrate too. Addition: Complete genius to make calibration by credit card available; almost everyone has some card that size close by, not everyone has a handy ruler/measure, or why would they need the app? High five - elegant app, great work. Thanks again.
Needed to measure a belt so I could buy a gun holster online and couldn't find my actual ruler. This app worked great and was completely accurate. Saved me from having to wait until I had time to go to the store and get another ruler...
Really impressed with this app! Usually these apps need calibration but mine worked out of the box perfectly. (Nexus 6p). If you're worried you can calibrate the app with another ruler, credit card or coin (work with any currency and denomination) by simply sliding the bars. Good job with this app! Highly recommended!
This is the one RULER to rule them all ! Simple elegant layout and interface. It's exactly what you expect: a ruler nothing more nothing less. Easy to calibrate. A thorough and clean interface. The only ruler anyone would want with no ads or requests for the user.
Tried loads previously, and calibration would be good vertically or horizontally but not BOTH. This one however was spot on. Needed small tweak with ruler, and has been perfect ever since. Ability to blank out background and change from black to white is the icing on the cake. Using a CAT S40 Rugged phone.. This is one happy customer. Many thanks
Initially I found it is almost impossible to get the back and home buttons to show. Nearly had to turn my phone off, then I found that you need to swipe from the bottom. Otherwise it seems a good app. So much so that I got the paid version. Thanks.
The best I've seen for clean design and functionality with no annoying ads. The only minor change I'd suggest is to add a help for first time users who don't understand calibration and why that matters.
Mine didn't need any calibration but even if it did it is very easy to calibrate, even with no ruler at hand. I also like the night and day modes and the fact that there are no ads.
Very easy to set up and use. It's so nice to have something this useful for those times on the go when you need an accurate measurement. The adjustment from light to dark is excellent as is the ease of calibration (there is a default offered to save you even more time). And yes, I even love the option to buy the creator a beer! Definitely a keeper!!
This is the simplest ruler app for the phone on the market. It is easy to calibrate, super accurate with decimals even in millimeters, and the best part is with the right editing I can create virtual, accurate, life size images of products I find on the Internet right on my phone!

I think this app works really well. All though it says that supporting the creater is "buying a beer" which i dont get and it uses hell when describing if you want to support it, i think it works very well and i am pleased. I got it because i couldnt find a ruler for school work. It is easy to use, and is a worth while purchase.
