Impetus Interval Timer for Android
Great app, the customization is excellent. I emailed the developer with some suggestions to make it even better and he responded to me immediately. 5 -stars when some of the changes roll out. With a few tweaks it is by far the best made timer app for the type of fitness routines I instruct.
The notification is now useless for me. Maybe show whether you should train or rest in the notification. Even better would be to also change the 'Reset' to 'Skip' (I only use it to time my rest-time)..
Was my favourite interval app until the sound no longer worked. Now I have to look at the screen to see if the interval has switched which makes it unusable. Tried reinstalling, it worked there first time then no sound after that. Too bad, it was a great app
Good app, but 2 problems to fix. First, the "mute background sound " automatically turns off the volume when connected to blue tooth speakers. I use those speakers to hear the beep sounds of impetus when doing exercises with impetus in a noisy gym. When I turn off the "mute background sounds", the app allows me to keep volume up for Bluetooth speakers, else it turns off speakers and no beeps are heard. Second, you need to increase sound volume capacity of app. It is too low, even at max volume to hear
This would be the best timer ever, if it only bleeped at interval changes! I keep turning it up but nothing works. It doesnt beep and when I go to check the volume, it is as if my settings didnt save. Volume control works on music though. What am I doing wrong?
I am a climber and I train in the gym mainly. This interval timer is great for making the custom routines I use to train with the rice bucket, hangboard, campus board and boulder circuits. Whenever I train with it people ask me about it and I tell them Impetus...the timer to rule all timers. Everyone has a timer or a timer app on their phone and most folks struggle to get the specific things they want. Impetus allows the flexibility and robustness to get the job done across a wide range of activities; I could not be happier with it.
Really great app. It can be as simple or as complex as you want it to be. And THANK YOU for allowing the user to control how sounds are played... it let's me hear the sounds in my bluetooth headphones which doesn't work on most timer apps.
2 stars because it seems like it could be a functional and nice program, but for me it's just unnecessarily bloated and confusing. It seems that what I need from a program like this could be achieved in an easier and more intuitive fashion - add as many intervals of whatever length I want and be able to name and save them. Perhaps I'm just too stupid for this interface.
The person who designed this app really knows what HIIT is. All the other hiit timers don't even come close. Fully customizable, you can incorporate any routine imaginable. Create your own preset and hit "go." it will keep running and running even if for an hour, notify you when you need to change, even speak the name of the next routine. once you install this trust me you will abandon all the others. simple interface and audible and pleasant beeps. thank you for such a great app. i give it six stars.
While it works great "out of the box," what really sets Impetus apart for me, is the high level of customization it offers. From setting and naming different intervals, to changing alerts sounds for different stages, to changing colours and setting up automatic pauses (and lots more) this app has so far done everything I've thought of. And I even discovered a couple of things I didn't know I wanted until I saw that it was possible. Love it.
Loading the pebble app from inside impetus still doesn't work. Google impetus pebble and download it from thier blog. - - Feels like I've tried and paid for all the timing apps on the play store. Impetus beats them all hands down. Easy to use, simple layout and most of all can do complex timer routines. Fantastic app.
Perfect for tabata training and works great on my Samsung phones. However, landscape mode for Samsung Table S2 cuts off the seconds number on the countdown so you can't see actual time remaining. I'm hoping a fix comes soon because the app is great otherwise.
Bug? When I use custom alert sounds, the second work period loops the sound so it keeps playing instead of only playing once. Not sure if that's some attribute of the alerts that I choose or if it's a bug. Please take a look at that. I can provide more info if desired. I use this for Pomodoro work-rest scheduling, too. I love how configurable it is.
Is like the developer hear my prayers and did exactly what I needed! It absolutely smash all the competitors in my opinion. I needed something deeply customizable and I got it! There is no reason to describe how it works because it does everything and more of what you need in a timer! Check by yourself you will be amazed.. super recommended
Great timer. 2 things. To get the sets you need to drag the exercises into the set(took a bit to figure that out) and to display the next exercise go to settings and check the box there. Once I found those, moved this to a 5 star. Great app. InNae
Going to start running with George and this allows me to get all the cats in that I need. Huge thanks! Looked at lots of other apps to do the same and they didn't, or at least I couldn't figure out how. This is easy, you can clone anything and then change any element you want. Brilliant - thanks!!!
But the program sounds won't stay where I left them. The program sounds slider keep turning off, music slider is fine. It does me no good if I can't hear when to start exercise and when to rest. Need to fix the program sound slider on an LG G3 with Android 5.01.
This used to be great until installing Lollipop. Now I don't have any of the countdown notifications. It will only countdown I'd I select the text to speech option, which I don't want. Please fix! Update 5/17/2015...still not working...uninstalling and moving on. Update 7/17/2015...got a new system update and thought I'd give it another try and still no beeps
Years have passed without an update but it is still useful. I really like being able to make workouts in a spreadsheet, export to Google Drive and import to Impetus. There is a small following on the FB page and occasionally the author drops by teasing us with saying he'll get back to this project. How's the house project going? How about some Impetus attention?
Has several presets plus you can create your own with warm up, work, rest, cool down and the number of sets (of work-rest) you want. And that's for the free version! Haven't tried premium version yet.
I tried this app out on my android phone today and the sounds didn't work. I had to be able to see the screen to complete the interval tasks. Not very convenient. I really want to hear the count down, and midway mark. Also I couldn't play my music and integrate with the free version but it doesn't tell you that when you are setting up. It would be great to be able to customize my workout online (bigger screen and keyboard is what I need) and then have it upload to my phone. I think this could be a good timer...it has more presets than others but something is lacking.
Tons of features yet no ads. Can be set to speak the count down last seconds, and announce interval names orally. I use it for cooking and baking. But sadly it resets itself in about 30 minutes time. I don't know why, but it only works if you need a timer of less than 30 minutes. I hope that the developers fix this issue.
Infinitely customisable and easy to use. I'd like to see an option to have it call out the minutes for longer intervals rather than just beeping for the entire second half of the interval. Other than that, it has everything I could wish for.
I have been try to use just the beep sounds for enterval. But it would start to play songs from my play list. This is a desapointment. Now whether I have to sellen to playlist or no sound. It's been frustrating experience. I hope they fix it soon.
Great Timer app. Highly customisable for any type of workout. However, I would have liked to have a mode where there would be a free running timer with just beeps at regular intervals (say, a beep every second). Would be useful when u don't have pre decided timing. Also, I would have liked an option for the voice announcement without mentioning interval number.
I like the timer overall, although learning how to edit the more complex interval I want is a learning curve I haven't scaled yet. But the real disappointment is that nothing happens when I try to install the pebble watch app. And there have been no updates since 2013. Pebble software has been overhauled since then.
Great app, simple and not screaming with social media like most of these apps
This app seems good but sadly for some reason when trying to set the rest setting it keeps setting itself back to zero so can't set rest.. Shame so going to uninstall..EDIT-- I thought I would try a reinstall and it worked fine so if you have the above problem uninstall then reinstall.. Works great..
The app itself works great, easy to setup workouts... but when I have music on (e.g, spotify or device) the impetus audio alarms dont work. This makes the app useless unless I am vigilant at watching the screen.
I've been a fitness professional for many years & have rinsed multiple timer apps for myself, my group training & personal 1-to-1 clients. None of which even remotely compare to Impetus. Super easy to use & customize. Tons of presets to experiment with. From simple on/off intervals to complex multi-timed full hour sessions. I especially like the voice setting, counting in & stating which round & how it runs with my music on during group & class based training. Had this app for a couple of years now. Perfect
Advanced timers without unnecessary complication. Clone and import/export presets. Even the starter presets are good. Request: Would be nice if you could manually edit preset order and add categories. Some minor problems: Switching run/edit is a menu instead of a button. Next interval is displayed in flashes instead of continuously in smaller font. App often crashes after saving preset name in landscape or deleting a preset. (See my Plus license review for more)
Complete, easy to use and good looking. I like it's clean simple sounds. I tried a few interval timers and I'm definitely sticking to this one.
Makes a terrible dubstep sound that is extremely harsh on the ears. I'm guessing it's supposed to motivate you? Horrifying
Nice app but no Android wear support...kind of a deal killer. App hasn't been updated since 2013 so it doesn't look like its still being worked on.
Perfect for organizing my workout EXACTLY how I want it. I'm using if for a yoga practice and have been able to set the times for each pose. I love all the options for sounds/vibrations. My only desire would be a desktop accessible way to schedule the workout and then transfer it to my device. It was quite tedious on the phone. Thank you for a simple interface with only the USEFUL bells and whistles!
Highly functional & customisable interval timer with useful features such as progress bars. Improvements could include interval timer name in notification, ability to change settings without abandoning current timer, & better interface (Material Design & user-centric/intuitive GUI).
I have tried all different kinds of interval alarm apps, and this is the one that performs the most consistently. However, the arbitrary limit of 9 hours, and 39 minutes is frustrating. I use this app as a simple interval alarm, to remind myself to get up and do some squats and stretches every 20 minutes (to combat the dreaded "sitting too much kills you" health concern), but due to the limitation, Impetus will stop after 9 hours and 39 minutes, and it's not possible to set the running time longer. Sometimes I don't notice the final alarm (it doesn't sound significantly different from the regular alarm), so I don't remember to reset the alarm to continue to run for the rest of the day, and that is a big problem. Why have an arbitrary limitation on the duration of the alarm at all? Why not let us set however long we want? Developers should never assume they know exactly how their users will be using their products, because we all have different needs. Apps should be as flexible as possible to accommodate all different types of situations.
Easy to use but the battery drain is a pain. Have stopped using app because if it.

I've tried so many of these timers and this one blows the competition away. Plus to upgrade to pro is a measly buck twenty nine. I upgraded just to give this developer money for a job well done. So simple and customizable.
