About Hotspot Control

Hotspot Control is a tiny app that enables or disables Portable Hotspot functionality of Android. Usually you could just do this in Android settings, but on some devices this option is hidden, or only works if you have a SIM inserted.

Hotspot Control does away with those requirements, assuming that the hotspot functionality itself is actually still present and operational on the device. Rooting is *usually* not required.

THIS IS NOT DESIGNED TO BEAT YOUR CARRIER'S TETHERING PROTECTION, OR LET YOU TETHER FOR FREE - For some people it does (it depends on how that protection is implemented) but this is not what the app was made for. It's no use complaining that it doesn't do this for you. This app is designed to circumvent some issues when setting up a *local* hotspot so your devices can communicate with eachother, *not* with the internet (though that also works on several devices).

You can configure the access point (hotspot) name and password, encryption used is alway WPA2 AES + TKIP, to keep it simple.

On some devices that do not have a cellular data connection capability (like the Nexus 10) the hotspot will not give out IP addresses - the app will auto-detect this situation and fix it, but root is required for that option. Note that without root on these devices, the connected devices can still communicate if you configure their IP addresses manually, but that is something for the advanced user.

I personally need this to create a private network (even without a SIM, and thus without an actual *internet* connection) in the field between a number of my devices. Some genius at Samsung decided that my Note II shouldn't create an access point if no SIM is present - I beg to differ! Maybe someone else has use for this as well.

For the price of a beer you can make me disappear. Yeah, if the free version doesn't work what makes you think I'll pay for it? Get your drunk asses up and make it work or why bother creating it in the first place?

Works on sm-t807a where at blocks the default hotspot function. However doesn't work on galaxy s3 sch-r530x. Can't get it to tether at all. O well. Thanks dev

So ive had it for about and hour and it overrides the hotspot block on cricket for a while. I get the error message to contact cricket for hotspot and turns off. I can reactivate it and itll work for a good minute and does the same. So far this app has been the only one that actually lets me use the feature and lets me run netflix on other devices. So connection speed is good. It will 5 stars expect that only issue. Good job hope to continue using this app. Will donate after ive used it for a while longer. Thank you Update: Works perfect. After having it a week i have no issues with it. Im so dumb not to have notices that incoming calls interfere with the connection. All though i did try it on my galaxy prime and it doesn't work but it works perfect on my ZTE max X3 so im super ampted for it to work so good on. Wish it will work for you all. Again thank you for a great app. Donated!!!

So many Hotspot Apps on market. Took me three hours to go through those Apps till I finally found this one. It's tiny file size. No extra permissions. No Ads. And, it works!!! Thank you developer!!!!

by B####:

If your carrier supports hotspot this app will work. If you think this app is going to prevent you from having to pay your carrier to use a hotspot: it wont. You're going to need to root your phone and use an appropriate hotspot app for that. (Or, ya know PAY YOUR CARRIER) I don't normally review apps but it really annoys me when people blame the developers of apps because they are completely ignorant of what the app is supposed to do.

This app DOES NOT.. *REPEAT* DOES NOT Bypass T-Mobile's HOTSPOT FEATURE. For those looking for a way to avoid paying the fees associated with HOTSPOT usage This is not THE APP! The DEVELOPER says it, I'm saying it. App works great like expected from CHAINFIRE. Support our DEVELOPERS and Make sure to visit the XDA Forums and Say Thanks. *Rooted Samsung Galaxy S3 - Stock TMo Rom*

Worked flawlessly on a boost Mobile moto e 2nd gen...for a week. Now I get the tethering message from Sprint and it fails to connect to the internet. I see that it's not MEANT to do truly bypass that, but its disappointing that it did so for a week and then stopped despite no updates being done to the phone or app

I believe this app is for phone without the ability to turn on hotspot u really thought this would fix the block at&t imposed on my S4 preventing hotspot from turning on. All the did was tried and took me back to error like before. Better luck next time.

I have a Samsung T699 and despite it had the app to enable hotspot, it wouldn't work. I would enable it and it would just auto-disable a second later. Installing this app made it stay enabled, and I verified my computer can "see" the network, so it's finally working!

L70%

I looked hard for an app that does this. Hotspot apps like Foxfi are infuriating because they refuse to work at all if there is no upstream Internet connection. All I wanted was the "router" function and this app does it. Thank you!

Im sure this app works for most phones but it didn't work for me.. i havnt been able to find an app that actually works for my Samsung galaxy S4 w/cricket.. I think cricket made it where your not able to have a hotspot..

Trying to set up a LAN with my old ATT Galaxy S3 to run a Chromecast. It activates for a second, then "no sim detected" error message. ATT must have a second layer of protection. So close...

Y70%
by Y####:

Well, I downloaded it because I thought it would let me control the IP range issued to clients of the hotspot. That didn't work, and it wouldn't even turn on my hotspot. To say I "hated" it (what it says when you choose one star) is quite the exaggeration. However, it didn't do anything at all, so I think it doesn't even merit one star. I don't blame them. Blame the FCC who lets carries screw up people's phones after the carrier mandates what phones their customers use.

Works as advertised, did the trick for my Samsung SM-T807A which had the factory hotspot excised by the evil empire, uuuhm sorry, att... thanks chainfire, you rock! If you have a quick cleaner to remove all the at&t bloatware, splashscreens and rubbish on my now t-mobile device, I'm buyin', aaahhhh my kingdom for a stock android Tab S...cheers

Seems that att's recent update has killed this once awesome app. Hoping for an update soon that'll make it work like it used to, but until then it only gets 2 stars for how it used to work. Samsung Galaxy S4.

When my phone upgrade from 4.1 to 4.3 I lost compatibility with the program it would be nice if I could downgrade back to 4.1 in short they fixed the glitch 4.3 and earlier. :-( mobile carrier att

You hit enable access point and it says to contact my cell company because hotspot isnt enabled. The point of apps like these is to not have to pay for internet twice. And this phone is rooted!

I use net10 and I use to be able to use my regular HOTSPOT but I upgraded my phone from GalaxyS 5 to 6 and it no longer works. I have tried working this app over for 2 days and I get my phone wifi hooking up to printer, and my adapter not even remaining enabled. My HP all in one windows 10 doesn't even detect the network. So I give up my time and my donation. :, (

Thank you so much for creating this app! It is exactly what I needed in order to set up a private (non-internet) connection between my tablet and my Linux PC! I'm using it to serve as the bridge for my wifi mouse and keyboard app, and it works perfectly!

I am a network engineer I have built 26 data centers around the US the smallest 50k sq ft largest 500k sq ft. Now what does this have to do with this app ? Well let me tell you every complaints I read has a common connection RTFM. Read the developers notes hell go buy dummies for Google play to help you comprehend what developers write.
