SMS Gateway for Android
This app is really simple and useful. It deserve to buy the donated version. However, I wonder if it is possible to send the delivery information to a Web page or email it. It seems that there is no option to extract delivery status.
Does not appear to work with latest Android Oreo. Get a permission error Phone State when trying to send the text message.
I liked the app. Just a few short comings i noticed - 1. Pop3 to SMS is not versy much secure. Anybody can drop an email to the mail address and that will cause SMS sending. This should be protected by some password. like subject should be - no.~password etc. Or mail body can be in a specified xml or other format. 2. When we start the gateway, on the home screen only, it should show some more details, like how to send msg using http etc. 3. In case of dual sim phone, i can't find the setting to select the sim to send the SMS.
Firstly. I use the program to listen on http. Router is set to forward the incoming port to the local ip address. The phone number format is international format you should use... and its working fine.
Pop3 doesn't work. Http okay but app is flaky. Dies after a few days and hard to restart. Also seems to freak out with certain text combinations. .. weird. Seems like a dead app as no Dev since 2012 and Dev website has daft message. Shame. :( so close to being the ultimate sms gateway app but Dev seems to have lost interest.
brilliant little app! Setting up pop3 on a gmail account requires 'less secure apps' turned on. Also any emails picked up need to be plain text or you get mimetype error sms instead. Not an issue when sending mail via script as intended.
Ok, it's not a one star app.. But it does need some TLC from the developer.. But their email bounces back and the website is dead.. Does anyone have a way of getting in touch with this developer? If you are the developer, please contact me via this page or by hunting me down.. I would like to use your app, I would also like to license it to sell it to our clients on your behalf.. The only thing it needs fixing is the way it handles long sms messages - there needs to be a way to stop it splitting down messages. Thanks Paul Green K9 Protection Ltd
This app does everything it's supposed to. Most of the poor reviews seem to be from people who don't know what is app is for or how an app like this is supposed to be used. My only issue to date is that some utf-8 characters don't send properly so I can't send every emoticon. urlencode creates a valid string but it's not properly decoded and sent by the app, often leaving a square box in place of emoticons.
the HTTP listening didnt work for me. perhaps the ip address / port could not tunnel to public. Not Support foriegn character?
I thought this app was great until it recently started trying to send a message to a 500 number. I used Rom Toolbox to freeze the app.
Explain exactly what this app do and how can we use it. I'm still unable to catch what this app do.
Was anybody in India able to make this work ? I tried only the forward to http option, but didn't work for me. A good concept, would have been great had it worked.
I am using this apps to test on our system. Though I have ticked *Prevent CPU sleep mode, The apps stop running after few minutes of activity and stop sending HTTP request. could you, please resolve this issue? or any suggestion? I will look forward to buying if got it working continuously on my android phone.
The good thing is it is free and it works. It could be more usable though : logs are not verbose enough, you cannot change the settings while the app is running, when setting the http adress it doesn't set the "http://" prefix by itself, and it doesnt tell you if it fails to forward the sms to the http server. I use Pingdom to monitor the status of my gateway, because the app itself doesnt monitor much (bad wifi / bad sms contions ..). For good reliability, one should use 2 phones on 2 different networks (just in case of bad wifi in one), and regularily (via a script) send an sms from one to the other, and check the 2nd one forwards this test sms to the server.
It crashed on my xiaomi redmi note2 and tablet. It started once but never run again, any suggestion?
It has a big security issue with webservice password sent in plain text. Move to HTTPS guys.
Awesome app. No updates recently... Why? Just one function missing... allowance of the length of phone numbers... without prefix of country. Lets say some country use 6 numbers other 7 or 8 or 9... This would limit only to be able to send to specific country(s)... or lets say by defining the prefix example 0049 which is Germany...Keep up the good work... and another bug i found is the context of text is containing + it would replace with " ".
Simple, stable. Emails have to be written in plain text format. I use it to send several hundred emails2sms per day.
I like the concept, I really want to use the program to send out my event invite texts to my 1300 contacts as quickly as possible, but the developer apparently didn't realize that not all of us know the settings to get it to work. Please make a clear tutorial.
a very useful little program, usually wearing nowsms combined with webserver, but now use sms gateway android through wifi, very easy, thank you
Works very well. one of the best SMS Gateway app. Installed and set it up quickly with a mobile phone & mailbox. On the dot email to sms and sms to emsil. Most people who have cribbed about this app , doesnot seem to know what they want. if you are getting javax.mail.mime... in your received SMS then you are not sending the source email as plain text. Yes, if you use gmail , you may have to set some work for "Your mail app might not support the latest security standards. Learn how to allow less secure apps access to your account." Absolutely surprised why the developers have orphaned this great app?? Maybe they should just opensource it ( like someone has suggested).
Unfortunatelly does not work correctly on dual sim device. (In my case Alcatel OneTouch C5). If first radio is turned off, app can't send SMS using second radio/sim card. There is no option to choose default sim for sending messages. Only first sim is responsible for sending SMS's.
Pop3 doesn't work. Http okay. Seems like a dead app as no Dev since 2012 and Dev website has daft message. Shame. :( so close to being the ultimate sms gateway app but Dev seems to have lost interest.
Finally It's working. Great app. To configure this app router port should be forwarded to local ip of phone.
Thank you for that App, it helped me too much, and worked 100%, thank you again.
Great app very simple to use. For some pop3 accounts SMS is not sending correctly but still it is really great so simple
I have to go to my android's about menu to check my IP each time. Please fix that if possible... Everything else is just great!
email -> SMS works fine. It is cool. SMS -> email and SMS -> HTTP did not work for me. The log is always empty, so I can't figure out what is the problem.
Long massages can't send with android lollypop
App does all the functionality in a very simplistic way. Logging of sms and an easier method than to know the ip of the phone to send an sms would make this perfect. Still great work. Donate!
promising, but not perfect for a real work...
It hang after receiving the SMS. After long time 3-4 hr it stopped automatic.
Hello, sice this app is not maintained anymore have you considered making it open-source?
Very happy that, unlike similar apps, data does not go over the internet. I connect straight to my desktop machine on the LAN. I've written code that lets me send/recv SMS from inside emacs in org-mode. Very slick. I finally have the solution for doing SMS through the phone via the desltop and SMSGateway is a the foundation of that.
Many android versions require READ_PHONE_STATE permission in order to send SMS, but such important setting is missing in this app.
i am trying to acess via http i used my ipadress and also the url given in setting page but i am not able to use http link to forward any sms . can any body help me out my email id is farooq@mohammediatechnologies.in
I don't know how to use this app... plzz tell me...
I haven't real test
This is a nice application. Does it work. I am happy to pay for it if: 1) Excellent, wish it supports Push through IMAP/IDLE 2) had some configurable secret code in the email subject to block unwanted SMSs

My only issue to date is that some utf-8 characters don't send properly so I can't send every emoticon. urlencode creates a valid string but it's not properly decoded by the app, often leaving a square box in place of emoticons. Its possible to send emoticons as a response through the header but not a direct SMS using GET url parameters. I just discovered today that I'm unable to send square brackets through the GET method. Please release a fix for emoticons and square brackets in the GET method!!!
