Helga de Alvear (Kirn, Alemania, 1936) fue reconocida en el año 2010 como una de las 100 personas más relevantes e influyentes en el mundo del arte dentro de la afamada lista "Power 100". En ese mismo año se abrió al público el Centro de Artes Visuales Fundación Helga de Alvear en Cáceres, con la exposición "Márgenes de silencio", una selección de 115 obras de la Colección Helga de Alvear.

El 26 de octubre de 2012 se inauguró la cuarta exposición del Centro de Artes Visuales Fundación Helga de Alvear, realizada a partir de una selección de los fondos de la coleccionista. Con la muestra que lleva por título Juegos de lenguaje, el comisario José Jiménez plantea que en el arte de nuestro tiempo ya no se busca reproducir en las obras las apariencias de la realidad exterior, sino interrogar críticamente esa realidad. En la época de la imagen global, sin un código único de representación, y yendo además de fuera a dentro, cada artista elabora los criterios de significación de sus obras, elabora un juego de lenguaje, cuyas claves deben ser desentrañadas para poder interpretar sus intenciones y sentidos. Esa diversidad, compleja y plural, de juegos de lenguaje, que deben ser entendidos como representaciones de formas de vida, constituye el núcleo del arte de nuestro tiempo. Tan intenso, variado y complejo como el mundo en el que hoy vivimos.
