About WxSat
WxSat (short for Weather Satellite) displays and animates full-resolution, real-time weather satellite data. WxSat leverages SSEC Data Center holdings to provide global coverage for visible, infrared, and water vapor channels.
Several geostationary and polar orbiting weather satellites around the globe continuously capture observations of the earth. These data are acquired by the SSEC Data Center which has one of the most extensive collections of real-time and archived weather satellite data in the world. A server dedicated to WxSat blends the images into single hourly global composites for three different products (Visible, Infrared, and Water Vapor). The server stages the most complete hourly images (backfilled when necessary) every hour at 36 minutes past the hour. This allows for a majority of the satellite sources to be included in the composites. These hourly composites are staged for WxSat and form the basis of the animations.
The names of the different images in WxSat refer to the parts of the electromagnetic spectrum the satellite sensors are sampling. The atmosphere is transparent to different types of radiation in certain areas of the spectrum called channels. The three most widely used atmospheric channels are the visible (0.6 microns), infrared (10 to 12 microns), and water vapor (6.5 to 6.9 microns). Scientist combine information provided from all three types of images to forecast the weather, monitor forest fires, ice flows, ocean currents, and long term climate patterns from the unique global perspective that only satellites can provide.

Animation doesn't work anymore on my Samsung S3. Says loading then white screen with no animation in loop or rock. Previously version animation worked great.

The satellite map will load very slowly, or will not load at all. It will load only one pixel at at a time (only a small tiny portion of it - that's it). The satellite portion of this app may have an error, means that it cannot load (or can't open at all - unfortunately it has stopped working). It may have crashed. The server that opens the satellite map may have crashed (or has stopped working - it may be down).That server that opens the satellite portion needs to be updated.

Animations won't play on my Galaxy S4. Kept it for several months to see if an update would fix the problem, but no such luck. Too bad. Because if it worked, it's exactly what I'm looking for.

Nice! Gives VIS, IR and WV, and it loops. I'm a happy girl. :-) 4-19-14 Update: I was thrilled with this app, but two days ago it began telling me to check my location services setting and turn access on, then restart the app. It's on and has been on, so I don't understand what's going on. Help, please.

The app is lightweight and doesn't require much load time for either the map background or the satellite imagery. If you were to release it now and never post another update, I'd still be quite satisfied. I don't know if you have a feature request list going or not, but here's what I would put on that list: 1) Color-enhanced IR and WV imagery 2) A state/country boundary overlay - I can see labels over the imagery, but the boundaries are lost 3) The ability to toggle visibility of specific layers/labels, especially the aforementioned political boundaries and labels, as well as road vectors and labels FWIW, there's also a second app named WxSat in the Play Store listings.
