BOINC for Android
But rule 1 of making public apps - make it easy to use (I'm a software developer and it took me 30 minutes to figure out how to add a project..) with clear instructions, not just "unable to add project". Rule 2 - make it work. All projects keep updating and not doing anything else. I have 0 tasks and no data is being crunched. My phine being plugged in and charged. Please fix it so it works at least. :)
Simply will not work on an Asus Zenphone, hanging on the initial splash screen. This has been ongoing for over a year now; every couple of months I install it, discover it still doesn't work and uninstall it again. It's a shame; my computers and other Android bits crunch away merrily doing their bit for science, but this one phone is left on the sidelines. :(
Works for WCG. but for seti it always says get 0 task while the seti server is fine and sending work unit to my PC boinc. Also the Rosetta (mini) saying does not support this device (Nexus 6p) for computing. I've added 3 projects but only 1 is working. Also the interface is blank (only show continue button) when I try to add more projects.
Really unobtrusive. Doesn't make phone hot, unlocking lock screen longer, while being able to really compute something. However tried only Collatz conjencture project. Has UI problems such as it doesn't show if project have binaries for android/arm, it can be determined only after registering and trying to run.
Easy to setup and get working, but I found a bug. My Nexus 6 with all settings set to 100% CPU and all 4 cores when it suspends and comes back it only ever uses 1 of 4 cores (but 4 tasks run). Any way to resolve this?
Wow, this is super-neat! I have a whole passel of old Android devices sitting around doing nothing. Now, at least, they can be put to some use. But, I already have accounts with an account manager not included in the default list. What are the plans to for adding our own account managers?
It works well but i notice if your take on too many projects it doesn't open. I noticed in the reviews that's a common problem. Try reinstalling it and only agreeing to run around 10 or so projects. I haven't tested the limit but now that i cut back to 7 it works really well.
Garbage Collection needs a fix. Done work units leave behind in storage. After a while internal storage reaches limit and no new units are fetched. Please fix, otherwise one needs to manually clear tge app's storage every once in a while through Android settings. Also, please add ability to choose SD-card for work units.
If I have the app open and unplug the phone, after plugging phone the back in, all tasks are 0% complete again. It also happens if I have the app open, unplug, let all tasks become suspended, and then swipe away the app in the tray. When I reopen the app, all tasks are started over at 0% complete. I have the app set to stay processing even with the screen on, if that makes any difference
Everything is working: attaching account manager, crunching, downloading and uploading. I got just one problem, I can't find option to force synchronisation to account manager and thus makes no possibility to remove projects which does not support android. Sorry, I have found synchronisation button, it shows after you press on account manager name in project screen.
To it saw this app and thought it would be a great idea to give over cpu over night to help out research but this version doesn't seem to want to download files to run. Have a older version on S4 and that seems to work or though slow
I so wanted to run this... But it's just too much for my S6 running all the other junk in the background. Charging via wireless (as I always do) means it doesn't charge at all (the app uses everything). Such a shame as I was so hopefull I would be helping people. :(
BAM account manager won't sync with bam site, which has added my Rosetta project. Manual won't go beyond the loading projects page, and URL link won't go to login Osage once it starts showing URL icon, in short, none of the 3 provided options worked with me.
Worked great until a few versions ago. No longer retrieves tasks for SETI@home or Einstein@home. I hear this is due to the way the new BOINC client reports CPU types, which is not supported by some projects. -Nexus 5X
Since my update to Android 5.0.1 on the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, Boinc has hung on the logo screen. Multiple reinstalls to no avail. What's up? This version is a complete fail. I have been running Seti since it began in Beta all those years ago, on multiple platforms, and I also run POGS, Einstein, Milkyway, Asteroids, and Rosetta. All of these apps run flawlessly on all 6 PCs I run. But not on my phone anymore. Someone dropped the ball and it seems like no one cares if this program ever works with 5+.
The last update never opens, just stays on the logo screen. I've been running network computing since the early SETI days, but this is really disappointing. Suppose I'll have to move over to the much less customizable and more annoying Folding@Home. Edit: V. 4.3: still doesn't OPEN!!
I will stick with the desktop version. Left running for Eight hours didn't perform any work. Uninstalled
Hideous user interface. However, Power to Give doesn't want to connect to WCG, so I'm stuck with this. At least it gets the job done...
It works smoothly for me on my honor p8. I'm just not convinced by the power management: I would like to set up to always work when plugged and only work when battery exceeds a certain threshold when unplugged. But apparently there is no way to do that?
Cannot add World Community Grid, no matter how many times I reset the password I still cannot add it. Very frustrating. All other projects add with no issues.
But the projects you connect to need work. Some seti work units go up about 1% per hour for 100 hour run time units (I never let these finish and abort them). World community grid gives low point counts, getting 20 points for work units that have taken ten hours to complete. Others like Enigma give good point rewards though.
Good app to let your old Android devices that are just sitting in a drawer, doing nothing something beneficial and productive to do. Just wish there was an option to see what it's working on graphically like the windows version screensaver. I have about 10 old Android devices and would like to make sort of a project of mounting them on a wall and have them each showing off what they are working on like the seti screen saver
It's a good idea and all for helping science wherever possible. Problem was that after leaving it running overnight, my S7 edge was hot enough to cook eggs on! Have now deleted the app n leaving my laptop on 24/7 to carry on helping the projects.
Running on galaxy s5. Phone really warm, not comfortable with it on my phone. I do support this, it is in my computers at home.
It was working until the last update now it just says no work. 7/6/16 Still won't download work. EDIT: 10/1/16 Downloaded the latest version still not downloading work from SETI at home time to uninstall. LG G4
Changing to sockets has made it impossible to control Android devices remotely. Can't detect complete WUs and hangs whenever it feels like it. Dreadful.
I love this project, Boinc works very well on it's own, on my PCs and more modern Androids,I get difficulties though trying to run on older devices which is a shame as they're not in use other wise. I've had several older devices running this but they seem to have stopped. Still, Boinc seems fine on my newer devices. This is a fabulous project for people to get involved with, particularly since you can earn Cryptocurrency doing it (Gridcoin) OK, gridcoin is not worth much at the moment, but in the future, who knows. Gridcoin is a bit of a pain to set up, but there's some pretty useful Vids on youtube if you want to be rewarded in Cryptocurrency. All in all, Boinc is easy to set up, the difficulties I've found are setting up Gridcoin and working on older android devices.
I installed this on two devices. won't run on either. update: I now have it running on the tablet, but I cannot get this app to run on my LG G4 to save my life.
I installed the app to run seti and Einstein but neither work. Yoyo and other projects work ok, but I am not interested in those. Disabling until this is fixed in next update.
I use BOINC on every bit of tech I have and my phone is no exception. Crunches away through the night whilst charging :)
I have been contributing on and off for 12 years. My last phone worked great with its quad core. My current octa core phone downloads stuff but shows no tasks to perform. Fix it and you'll get a tonne of computation from me
Stipped retrieving tasksa while back, and i cant add new projects either. Please update so i can continue helping save the universe!
I run Seti@home on three desktops, but can't retrieve tasks on the mobile app, so much computing power is being lost :(
Supports the newer processor on my phone. It's not a problem with the app but I can only run 3 out of 8 CPUs with out the phone shutting down half the processor or slowing it down due to heat. ZTE zmax pro.
Locks up on startup, app just displays the Boinc logo on screen. Uninstalled the app after waiting for it to do something other than display the Boinc logo.
I run this program on all my computers and my old phone upgraded phone and cannot receive new jobs from seti please upgrade to include new CPUs
Current version is broken. Had to downgrade to 7.4.43 to make it work.
Runs fine on my MotoG3, but separate logins per project is annoying. If there was a simple button for anonymous user contribution, it would really reduce the install friction.
Couldn't get it to connect to my online accounts..Or even start!! I've used boinc for over a decade, it shouldn't be this awkward

I have managed to add one project. But after it i cant add another projects, i just see an empty list without chance to add smth in projects menu subfolder. Also it just do not start operating, when all conditions are fine (90% battery charge). Complete mess. I want to thank boinc project for ability of easy civil science, but, guys, yoy should to smth with this app. It s full of bugs
