Di lặc
Di Lặc (zh. 彌勒, sa. maitreya, pi. metteyya là cách phiên âm, dịch nghĩa là Từ Thị, "người có lòng từ", cũng có thuyết rằng Ngài có tên là Vô Năng Thắng, phiên âm Hán-Việt là A-dật-đa. Di Lặc là một vị Bồ Tát hay là Chuyển luân thánh vương và cũng là vị Phật cuối cùng sẽ xuất hiện trên Trái Đất.

Trong Phật giáo Tây Tạng, bồ tát Di-lặc được thờ cúng rất rộng rãi. Trong Phật giáo Trung Hoa, từ thế kỷ 10, hòa thượng Bố Đại được xem là hiện thân của Di Lặc.

Truyền thuyết và kinh điển
Theo truyền thuyết và kinh điển Phật giáo, Di Lặc là vị Bồ tát sẽ xuất hiện trên Trái Đất, đạt được giác ngộ hoàn toàn, giảng dạy Phật Pháp, giáo hóa chúng sinh, và chứng ngộ thành Phật. Phật Di Lặc sẽ là vị Phật kế thừa Đức Phật lịch sử Thích Ca Mâu Ni. Cõi giáo hóa của Bồ Tát hiện nay là trời Đâu-suất (sa. tuṣita). Bồ Tát Di-lặc được tiên tri sẽ giáng sinh trong kiếp giảm của tiểu kiếp kế tiếp, khi nhân thọ là 80.000 năm, tức khoảng 9 triệu năm nữa theo năm Trái Đất, khi Phật Pháp đã bị lãng quên trên cõi Diêm phù đề. Sự tích về Phật Di Lặc được tìm thấy trong các tài liệu kinh điển của tất cả các tông phái Phật giáo (Nguyên thủy, Đại thừa, Kim cương thừa), và được chấp nhận bởi hầu hết các Phật tử như là một sự kiện sẽ diễn ra khi Phật Pháp đã bị lãng quên trên Trái Đất, và Bồ Tát Di-lặc sẽ là bậc giác ngộ Pháp và thuyết lại cho chúng sinh, tương tự như những vị Phật lịch sử đã làm trong quá khứ.

Nếu năm đức Phật xuất hiện trên Trái Đất được xem là hóa thân của Ngũ Phật thì Bồ Tát Di-lặc được xem như hóa thân của Thành sở tác trí (xem Phật gia, Ngũ trí).

Có thuyết cho rằng, chính Bồ Tát Di-lặc là người khởi xướng hệ phái Duy thức của Đại thừa. Một số học giả cho rằng, vị này chính là Maitreyanātha (sa. Maitreya-nātha), thầy truyền giáo lí Duy thức cho Vô Trước (sa. asaṅga). Truyền thống Phật giáo Tây Tạng cho rằng, Ngài là tác giả của năm bài luận, được gọi là Di Lặc (Từ Thị) ngũ luận:

Đại thừa tối thượng luận hoặc Cứu cánh nhất thừa bảo tính luận (sa. mahāyānottaratantra)
Pháp pháp tính phân biệt luận (sa. dharmadharmatāvibaṅga)
Trung biên phân biệt luận (sa. madhyāntavibhāga-śāstra)
Hiện quán trang nghiêm luận (sa. abhisamayālaṅkāra)
Đại thừa kinh trang nghiêm luận (sa. mahāyānasūtralaṅkāra)

Hình tượng
Trong tranh hay tượng, Di-lặc ngồi trên mặt đất, biểu tượng sẵn sàng đứng dậy đi giáo hóa chúng sinh.Tại Trung Quốc, Bồ Tát Di-lặc cũng hay được trình bày với tướng mập tròn vui vẻ, trẻ con quấn quýt xung quanh. Người ta tin rằng đó chính là hình ảnh của Bố Đại Hòa thượng, một hóa thân của Di-lặc ở thế kỉ thứ 10

In Tibetan Buddhism, the bodhisattva Maitreya is widely worshiped. In Chinese Buddhism, from the 10th century, the Venerable Father General is considered the embodiment of Maitreya.

Legends and classics
According to legend and Buddhist scriptures, Maitreya is a Bodhisattva will appear on Earth, achieve complete enlightenment, the Buddha Dharma teaching, teaching them birth, enlightenment and became Buddha.
