In order to be able to access your radio by means of remote control, you do not have to buy any supplementary device: your smartphone suffices. With the Volkswagen Radio Remote Control app your smartphone becomes a genuine remote control based on Bluetooth with which you achieve almost all functions for which otherwise you would press the radio keys.

I am not able to control the audio system with this app, it just keeps on scanning

I use it in my polo. It works so smooth. No performance issues. But the layout can be managed well in the app, instead of swiping off screens for various actions, everything in one screen makes it a little more easier to use. All in all, a good app.
