About TalkNRead
TalkNRead is a simple App to recognize spoken text into a sizeable text field.
The targeted audience are people who are not able to hear well. If you want to tell them something, simply talk to the device, probably correct the recognized text afterwards, and give it to the deaf person to read the text. In case that person cannot see well you can resize the recognized text as desired.
You may lock the text if you give the device to some person for reading your text which has no experience in handling Android devices. By locking the text you can prevent the text from being altered unintentionally.
Please read the help carefully that comes with the app to get familiar with. You reach the help by pressing the question mark in the app title, or on older devices by using the menu button option.
TalkNRead utilises the new (since Android 4.x) voice typing service that might even work without internet connection (since Android 4.1.x). If this new voice typing cannot be found on your device, the older speech recognition service will be used (always requiring an internet connection). Please note that offline voice typing requires some minimum processing capacity. If your device is too slow, just keep using online recognition.
If this new voice typing input service cannot be found, Android's older speech recogniton will be used instead (which always requires internet connection).
The built-in IME takes less room than an average keyboard IME thus leaving more space for showing recognized text, since it has only two buttons:
One to start voice recognition and a second Button to select another IME if you like.
It is based on the great example provided by the Project http://code.google.com/p/google-voice-typing-integration
Using standard IME mechanism as the input gives you the possibility to use an arbitrary IME as well.
Imagine you want to tell something to somebody who is not far away from you in a loud environment. Then you might use a keyboard IME to type something and show the text (probably big sized) to the target person.
To be able to use the built-in IME, you have to enable it first. If this did not happen so far, TalkNRead will guide you through that process every time it is started as long as you did not deactivate this feature (see below).
You might not want to use TalkNRead IME all the time. Right beside the delete text button you find the button to show the IME selection system dialog for easy switching betweeen your IMEs.
The current IME is shown most of the time to have an easy access to the start button for voice recognition. If the current IME is shown and you want to get rid of it just press the back button.
Or tick the check box 'lock text' which blocks the edit capabilities of the text field to be less prone to unintended text changes while showing the text to someone.
TalkNRead uses In-app Billing provided by Google (starting with Google Play Version 3.9.16).
If you use TalkNRead several times, after a while you will get asked to pay using in-app Billing. You can still keep using TalkNRead without paying, but it will start to frequently remind you to pay. I have chosen this solution because it gives you the opportunity to sufficiently test TalkNRead before paying. And even if you never pay you can still use TalkNRead, by ignoring the upcoming reminder. I think this is fair. If you are very annoyed by the payment reminder and want to get rid of it without paying, you might uninstall and re-install TalkNRead. The initial time frame before payment remiders will be reactivated. To be honest: I would prefer that you get rid of the payment reminders by paying ;-)
