About MyAccessible.EU Tagger (Unreleased)
The MyAccessible.EU Obstacle Tagger app works alongside the MyAccessible.EU obstacle map (http://cap4navi.geog.uni-heidelberg.de/ObstacleTracker) as a means of adding information to OpenStreetMap regarding obstacles encountered in the environment that could cause problems for wheelchair users. Unlike many OpenStreetMap tools, the app aims at the simple addition of information through the user entering a textual description (and the ability to upload a photo) of the obstacle. This information is then made available to other users of the app and obstacle map, and adds information to the OSM that allows experienced users to enter the data in a suitable manner. As such, the people recording the obstacles do not need to concern themselves with the more complex task of adding information to OSM.
The benefit of adding the information into OSM is that once there, anyone has access to it. In particular, routing services such as OpenRouteService can use the information to generate routes that are tailored to the individual needs of wheelchair users.
Aswell as being able to see the obstacles recorded in the app, the map webpage at http://cap4navi.geog.uni-heidelberg.de/ObstacleTracker displays the same information alongside street level photography gathered from Mapillary. Using this, people with restricted mobility can look at an area and identify any obstacles that may be of concern to them.
