- Selectable backgrounds (theme color, own images, or wallpapers - even Live Wallpapers)
- Delete and send files
- Supports equalizer, bass boost, and reverb on devices with Android 2.3
- and some more, just check the preferences...

Used permissions:
Phone state: Used to pause during a call. Otherwise it would only be muted by the system.
Wake lock: So the playback isn't stopped when you turn off the screen. Also for some optional features like disabling the auto screen off during playback.
Disable keyguard: In case you only want to use the app's lock screen. (And not return to the default one afterwards.)
Write/delete external storage: For some internal files in .MortPlayer, e.g. cached folder covers from ID3 tags and track order lists.
Internet: Ads (AdMob)
Boot completed: To reschedule the alarm clock after boot.
Tasks: For "StopService" activity, to avoid the system returns to player afterwards

This app CAN read from the external SD card! The file browser is a little confusing, your SD card will be under a weird name with numbers. App is perfect for saving your spot on multiple mp3 files, plus you can quickly skip ahead or go back. Perfect for my needs. Thanks Mort Player!

Excellent app except for one issue: it forces you to choose a default folder. I cannot choose both internal and external storage simultaneously. I have books and music in external and internal storage and would like the app to see and play all available audio files. I downloaded Mortplayer Music to play internal files, but I would prefer that one app handle all audio.

Has worked great for years. Just tried to listen to a new book i just bought and it randomly chooses places to play from and acts as though parts are shorter than they are. Completely made my book confusing. Not sure why, it's a download directly from cory doctorow so it's probably fine. Tried in a random player and works fine.

This app is pretty good. However it needs a play back speed controller badly! ! Also the skip button on my galaxy lll doesn't work at all. Plz fix this could be a 5 star app! It has all extras you have to buy on other adiobook plays for free. This app just needs a little work.

Best audiobook player I have found so far. Two features which would be nice are speed controls and better seeking controls for large files. Quite a lot of the time I'd like to speed up playback by 20-40% with lectures or speeding over boring parts of books. I have some files which are 6+ hours and it's really have to skip forward-backward by several minutes.

Excellent app. Tried many that fell short of this one. No ads or nagging. Multiple Bookmarks in Mp3's are easily saved. Only gripe, would be a better GUI. Other than that and maybe a tempo controller. The best part is being able to manually enter the time to play especially if you were using the regular mp3 player prior to this. Works with screen off/Bluetooth, etc. Great work! Oh ya, and FREE!!! Thanks!

I've been using Mortplayer for audiobooks since the original generation DROID came out. It has been an excellent audiobook app, and I've been extremely happy with it until recently. I switched phones to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the play button on Mortplayer doesn't work when pressed if it is at the beginning of a track. If you move the time slider over, the book will play from that position, and after that, it will work until the next track or another track is chosen. Please fix!

1 it displays perfect on my chacha, which is a phone that no one cares about any more. 2 it saves my neck when i am heading down a 8hr long book in mp3 format, without it, cant imagine how would i finish it. 3 but what bothers me is that, i dont know the reason for this, but it seems runs on the background sometimes, even if i havent used it for a time. everything is just fine but this last one. but i think i will have to take it with me.

Please add multiple and/or remote folder options such as Dropbox or Skydive. They all download to different locations... I either have to move the files or switch it in settings... It's the only missing element for me, otherwise would give 5 stars.

I've been using MortPlayer for a long time. It does everything I need with regard to audio books. - Playback that remembers where I left off, in a series and within a specific audiobook. I convert all my audiobooks and podcasts to .m4b format, and no matter where I am it remembers. - Easy navigation - Put all podcast episodes in a single folder. Just navigate within the app to the folder and voila, it finds the last played or you can select the one you want to listen to. - Lock screen widgets and home screen widgets. - You can turn off ads even if you don't donate, but I donated just because of that! If you listen to podcasts, or audiobooks, get this program.

THE BEST AUDIO BOOK PLAYER! I've tried all of the top audio book player and even purchased some of them but NONE come close to this one. I even donate to support the developer. Please fix a little bug : when in the bookmark page, when I choose all manual bookmark or just bookmark for the current file, the selection is forgotten every time I come back to the bookmarks page. Look forward for the update. Thank you very much!

I've been searching for a good looking, smart playing, well working audiobook player for a while. MortPlayer is my 3rd one trying on my EVO 4G LTE and I really love it. Easy to use and did I mention it works really well. It doesn't get 5 stars from me cuz this app does not play M4b (which 80% of my audiobook collection is). Maybe sometime soon it'll be compatible. Pretty please.

Fantastic. Have been using Mort player since my Treo Palm Pilot! I use this app everyday on my long commute to work. Options are endless and functionality is superb. great app! Note: Please update for android 5.0. Audio gets hung up on initial play. Must pause and resume to get audio.

Works well, decent ui, good feature set. I use it over other audio book players. One really useful feature would be the ability to read and play my own audiobooks from the cloud, like my Google drive folder. Then I'm not tied to my local storage and also I'm not eating up all the space on the phone. Podcast players all stream now, seems like audio book players should too.

I recently went from Sony xperia arc s to a Motorola G. It was great before but now I have random stops during playback. I thought it was possibly a duff audiobook but it plays OK in my stock music player. The random stops are within 10 minutes every time. Please look into it and I will raise to 5 star

I70%
by I####:

Even though this is for Audio Books, I use it almost exclusively for listening to Podcasts. For that purpose, it is great. If I get halfway through a podcast and accidentally hit the "next track" button, it remembers where I was and I can go back and continue where I left off. And, when you pause and start back up later, it jumps back about 10 seconds so it gives you a mental reminder of what was going on when you left off. But my favorite feature is the auto-stop when you remove the headphones. Often times I will listen to podcasts while doing dishes. If I need to pause, I can just pull out my headphones and I don't have to find a towel and dry off my hands so I can turn the screen on my phone back on and hit the pause button. (Plus, I can just plug the headphones back in and it will start back up. Great feature...) This is the first app I have reviewed, but it is the app I use the most. It may not have any options for managing or downloading podcasts, but for listening to them I have found nothing better. If you are looking for an app to listen to your podcasts, I cannot recommend this app any higher.

Any other popular music player with 10 second rewind added would be better. The headset button handling is buggy. No other audio app I have has any problems with the headset. Also crashes every now and then. Also there are waaaay too many knobs for customization. The best apps know what kind of ui to provide without confusing it with options Not a bad option for the functionality

I tried a number of audiobook players for android before getting this one, and none measured up. It is simple, straightforward, and amazingly configurable. Particularly nice is the exit option to close. Not nearly enough apps on android allow you to actually close them when not using them. Really exceptional product.

X70%

Please devs, would you make the word "Audiobooks" appear first? You have two MortPlayers with very similar icons, it just make sense to see under the icons clearly which one is Music/Audiobooks. Other than that, they are great folder based players. But specially this audiobook player would be 5 stars when title change. Small things could make a big difference.

I listen to audio books almost every day and I've always used a regular music player for the purpose. I came across this app just today and I find its features very convinient and easy to use. I don't know why I hadn't thought to look for something like this sooner!

X70%

I've used this player before and I really do like it. However, it NEEDS options to increase playback speed. I listen at 2x speed and am quite used to it. I like to fire my books out quick so I can move onto the next. Being locked at 1x is just painful. I've moved onto another app because of this. I'd rather come back though.

This was a fantastic app. The last android update has now changed Mort Audio, I can't change my preferences to go to my SD card where I have a directory with my books saved. Please could you look at this problem so I can give you a 5 star

A70%

IMHO this has been the best audio book player around for a long time. Unfortunately it's pretty much unusable on Android 5.0 Lollipop. Hopefully the author will find the time for a bug fix release soon so it can get back the 5 stars it really deserves when it is working properly.

X70%
by X####:

The app has more features and options than pretty much any other free app, but it is so difficult to navigate that it becomes a bother. Needs to be simplified and made more user friendly. And a playback speed feature would be really useful, too.

X70%

For some reason, this app will pull out media control card in Android Wear to change tracks etc. However, the control card does not close on the watch despite the app being closed. Stays on and cannot even manually close. Driving me nuts as it interferes with the watch face. Please fix! Thanks

Makes the long drive to work bearable. Support great devs like this one, hit the donate link! To those of you saying it doesn't work or is missing functions, you need to look in to the extensive options. And if it's not what you're looking for, why leave a bad review? it's not the dev's fault it wasn't what you wanted. Great app.

Mortplayer would be the ultimate audio book player if it didn't have a fatal bug that causes it to lose it's place. It always starts back at the beginning of a new track when I press play after a pause. I have had this problem on both a Samsung dart and a nexus 5. One caveat is that this bug only seems to apply to long tracks. I never have this problem on short tracks. It only seems to occur on tracks that are an hour or more in length. Other than losing its place, I love the headset audio controls.

Every feature I could want for audio books except volume boost to match the audio level of Google Navigation with Google enhanced TTS on Galaxy S5, making Mort unusable in the car if using Navigation. Was OK with my RAZR Maxx. No response to email to dev asking for solution suggestions. Installed Smart book reader, Uninstalled Mort player.

Use this every day. Reliable and easy. EDIT: bugs with lollipop (e.g. rewinds too far after every notification) - assuming development is dead (nothing since 2012) so have moved to Smart Audiobook which works well under Lollipop.

This is hands down the best player available. It does 99.999% of what I could ever possibly want. The one itty bitty wish I do have is the ability to disable the Skip to Next Track buttons. It's not a design flaw... It's my clumsy habit of hitting it. Please consider donating to the developer. It's amazing he keeps it free!

The dev has put a lot of work/love into this app and is extremely fair in how he manages the ads. I don't own a credit card but I keep the ads enabled to support the creator of this great app. 1 thing I miss is a theme h Which is completely black with blue buttons etc. Great app recommend this to audio book lovers like me

I just wish it could handle VBR MP3s better. I have a lot of issues with a VBR cd set I try to play. Otherwise it's an awesome audiobook player and is also awesome to listen to long audios (like seminars and self help stuff)

Generally a good app that recognizes one book from another allowing continuous play. I have found the navigation, especially to a different book, to be a bit clunky and not obvious. Maybe there should be book in the navigation as w.ell as folder? What completely irks me is the sorting of bookmarks and tracks cut off before the end is heard. It is impossible to hear the end. Bookmarks sort themselves in no relation to chronological order; last one is NOT 1st one seen. FIX please!

It is really an amazing program to read audio books. There are many customisation options and the usage is quite clear. Works very well with headset buttons - but there is a bit of delay and it might loose track by a few seconds sometimes (not a big issue but would be nice if it can be corrected).

I70%
by I####:

Dead app! No updates since 2012 and several issues. Why are there no playback controls in notification like in MP Music? At the very least, pause is needed. Bluetooth headset pause control handling is buggy. Artist and album is sometimes shown to be something seemingly random from other mp3s.

I used to have issues once my phone upgraded to Lollipop. No longer. The player does not get hung up anymore. I like that it saves where I left off without any intervention on my part.

S70%
by S####:

Wonderful, get to save my place and not have to search where the spot left off, and control the rewinding if you miss something! Only thing, it seems to take issue with a) files that were added a second time, and b) files that weren't added the same time as ones that had been there longer. Today, the later files were automatically deleted. Sadface. Otherwise, great app.

D70%
by D####:

Was a brilliant app, but now it crashes after about 10 mins of playback. No crash report, just stops playing and disappears. Considering I only ever use it on sleep mode and it takes more than 10 mins to get to sleep, it is now useless.

One of the first things to download on a new phone. One thing, delete all bookmarks should do just that, not needing to check check boxes every single darn time... option for "don't ask next time" please?
