Seit gut drei Jahren freut sich Köln über ein neues heimisches Musikgewächs, das im Lokalen bereits einige Erfolge verzeichnen konnte und in diesem Jahr nun anhebt, endgültig ganz Deutschland zu erobern. Der Name des Quartetts, Börgerding, mag zunächst erstaunen, ist aber leicht erklärt. Es ist der Nachname ihres Frontmannes Frank Börgerding; zugleich bedeutet er im Mittelhochdeutschen so viel wie „Bürgerrat“, und auf einer abstrakten Ebene passt dies auch zur Formation: Börgerding machen Musik für mündige Bürger, für Menschen, die sich ebenso gern in einen kunstvoll komponierten Song fallen lassen, wie sie sich anregen lassen von Texten, die geistreich, originell und immer auch eine Spur (selbst-)ironisch sind.
Im Bandkontext entsteht ein Sound, der in hiesigen Gefilden recht einmailg ist. Dieser Sound hat keine Angst vor Pop, solange er handgemacht ist. Er flirtet mit Rock ebenso wie mit raumgreifenden Arrangements, die den Hörer in aufregender Weise davon tragen. Er kann geradeheraus und kraftvoll sein, in Momenten aber auch zerbrechlich, nachdenklich und intim. „Wir suchen uns den Stil, die Musik, die wir machen, nicht vorsätzlich aus“, so Frank. „Wir machen einfach, und durch die große Vielfalt an stilistischen Einflüssen, die jeder mitbringt, entsteht etwas, das zugleich stilistisch offen und heterogen ist. Wenn wir diese Vielfalt zusammentragen, entsteht Börgerding. Man kann das, wenn man Musik als Kunst begreift, gar nicht beeinflussen, wohin die Reise geht.
