Turn your Android into a high-quality audio recorder!

Features

Field Recorder provides easy-to-use presets for standard audio recording tasks. However, it is designed for professional use as it provides more than 85 options to customize it to the given device and situation.

⚫ Built-in and external microphones are supported and also 'class-compliant' USB soundcards with Android 5

⚫ Records and plays mono or stereo wav files

⚫ Supports file overwrite and resume recording

⚫ Convert your recordings to mp3, AAC or FLAC via free helper apps, share or send them

⚫ Up to 90 seconds pre- and 4s post recording. You won't miss any important stuff even if you are too late at the record button

⚫ Auto start, stop, and continue, depending on loudness. The control signal can be additionally filtered to optimize it for voice recording or other sounds

⚫ When recording, automatic stop at 4GB maximum file size and even seamless restart of a new file is available (activate auto start with the minimum threshold)

⚫ High-precision stereo audio recording engine with various low-cut filters, minimum-phase shelving and parametric equalizers, and stereo balance correction e.g. to compensate for flaws of the microphones or optimize for speech. Also with recording booster, configurable limiters, soft clipping, and high-quality monitoring

⚫ Wav player with volume maximizer, silent and audible fast-forward and fast-rewind, and low-latency random access to any play position via progress bar

⚫ Recordings are stored internally or on any chosen SD card. Default is SD card. Recordings are visible to your favorite player

⚫ Almost 10.000 colors available for the metallic-brushed skin. Also, you choose round or rectangular LEDs, left-hand operation, button size, and your favorite color for the display area

First steps and testing

Use the 2 hours refund period to test how audio recording works on your phone. Touch "Factory" in the display area and you probably find a preset in the cloud perfectly adapted to your smartphone!

Or try the different input configurations from "In:MicA" to "In:MicE". If you activate "Monitor", use headphones to avoid a sound feedback loop. Check without creating audio files, just by pressing the pause button which activates the level meters. Then you see a date/time string as the potential file name. It is created only if you press the record button

Hints
⚫ If you modify a preset, its name gets gray in the display area
⚫ Playback can amplify quiet recordings by choosing e.g. "Play +20dB" without distortion due to a 2nd limiter. The Monitor switch affects only recording
⚫ Touch the "time/position/free" label to show the remaining recording duration
⚫ Touch battery symbol to toggle between battery and CPU usage
⚫ Touch "CLP" to reset red LEDs
⚫ The level meter shows peak amplitudes or the start/stop control signal. Touch it to open its configuration menu
⚫ Active auto start overrules pressing the pause button
⚫ The 1.5kHz filter optimizes the auto start/stop control signal for speech. 750Hz better suppresses disturbing sound with high frequencies, 3kHz with low frequencies
⚫ Soft Clipping is active above -3dBFS
⚫ Limiting and Soft Clipping work only if Boost is greater than 0dB
⚫ "Boost 40dB" or more might produce hardware feedback loop if power supply is instable
⚫ Overwrite and Append modify existing recordings (warning can be switched on/off)
⚫ Activate flight mode to reduce noise floor

What are users saying about Field Recorder

Absolutely love it. It can pretty much fulfill any recording task you throw at it. It gives you full control over the sound, and it's pretty simple once you get the hang of it. Well worth the money. (Do not get carried away with the gain settings. It can damage speakers)

Incredible app definitely worth every cent. I got myself a saramonic smartrig+ to use with this and it almost sounded like a $400 field recorder but in reality with the preamp only cost a little over $100. Only the best and I can tell you I have tried a lot of apps but none of them are this good

Love the features. However, my version says that it's outdated and it will produce huge CPU usage and that a new version will solve it. But where is this new version on the play store? I'm on version 7.0.2. I'm on Android Oreo 8.0 if that makes any difference. *UPDATE* App automatically updated itself the next day to 7.1. Not sure why it took that long but thx to the developer for replying to my concern.

Great, fully featured audio app. Just one thing I wish it had: While you can increase the gain of the microphone, you can't decrease the gain below zero. I'm a motovlogger and I use a lavalier microphone plugged into my phone to record audio. It would be nice to be able to decrease the input gain, so I'm not producing clipped audio. Something to think about! I have low recording gain selected and boost is set at -5dB. My lavalier's signal is still too hot. Are there other settings I could try?

Best audio recorder for android. Far more superior than anything available. With each new update, it becomes better and better. Thank you for your wonderful work

No matter which preset I use, I'm hearing the cricket sounds during playback. The support for this app sucks too, I emailed the guy a few questions, but he never responded.

Great app just wish could record some streaming audio for sampling works .if there is a way to record from other playing apps e.g. vocals with a track playing from streaming content just for better dictating ideas in a mixed sense ...

Sounds good, but can record from my USB sound card via line in port

Used on lenovo tablet it really brought it to love, can now use quality usb Mike. Very good program and worth the expense

K70%

Perfect for broadcasters ... I use it with a field/handheld USB mic on my smartphone, and have the EQ section carefully adjusted for a near studio quality sound. No more anemic, tinny sounding recordings from on-location assignments.

I don't know if it's my phone or what but this app takes really crappy recordings. I have a Samsung Galaxy S7. I bought a Zoom H1 and records WAY BETTER. Not even a comparison. I record live concerts tho so for something in an office maybe it's ok but I wouldn't know.

S70%
by S####:

Ok I got it. Unclear what are the advantages over other apps. Where for example is a noise reduction settings??? And how on Earth I can hear what is being recorded?

Love this app! Feels just like my recorder and makes stealth taping a piece of cake! I use a pair of sound professionals in-ear binaural microphones/power supply with an Andrea Android adaptor going into the mini USB, works great! Much more user friendly than my previous app (RecForge 2pro), this has a great interface and the sound quality is outstanding!

S70%
by S####:

The app works great- the widget, not so much. After recording using the widget and then stopping the recording, the recording icon stays in the taskbar saying it's recording when it's not. Back to opening the app and starting recording that way.

Great recorder. UI can be a little overwhelming at first, but read the help guide and it will make sense. Options galore once you understand the UI.

A70%

Please add 24 bit sound support in it, my phone Xperia z5 premium support 24bit audio but no 24bit sound option in the app, also ACG cannot be disabled in this app, it's grayed out, please add support for phone model, also add 50hz filter, it only has 60hz filter. There is no help guide in app. Add that as well. Thanks.

Very sophisticated recorder. Works well with my LG V20. I love the control this app provides. Well done! I'll be buying pro version.

S70%
by S####:

Despite its beauty, and the quality of sound it produces (selective devices)...on the s7 edge it can record in stereo. I know this because the meters and sound adjust based on position...not at all on the v20. The meters stay level. I tap each of the 3 mics and only the bottom one is activated in this app. And the sound is horrible. Its mono and its tinny on the basic setting. Meaning...its 3 stars when its reviewed as a whole encompassing app. Update the app when it can utilize all microphones (at least 2 on the v20) and I will update review. Through my headphones and this app, I will stick to stock app which uses both positioned at the top (camera hifi uses all 3).

This app is just what I needed. I had a bumpy start but the customer service was fantastic and prompt. All of my questions were answered. I use this app to record my band. So far, great!

S70%

I can't describe how great this recorder is. full of great & advanced features which you can't find in any other app. i was using RecForge 2 before this & i should honestly confess that they're not even comparable in recording quality. This app is by far the best Voice Recorder for Android.

S70%
by S####:

Easy to use, impressive, well thought out with lots of nice features. Worked well on Google Pixel. Better than any iOS recording apps I have used. Buttons look a bit plain but functionally is great.

48K wav setting makes it my go-to recorder for video work. Connect a trrs lav mic to a smartphone in someone's pocket. Great sound for a camera without ext mic.

Can't get the media recorded off the phone. Sucks, because I have to get a new phone

Is there a way to use this app to record stuff playing on my phone not from the speaker but inside the phone?

S70%

Kind of a bummer, thought this would work with an external microphone

I've used half a dozen different recording apps over the years. I was settled on Hi-Q Mp3 recorder for the last couple of years. It was easy to use mostly because it doesn't have many options. I decided to try Field Recorder when it was on sale. Complex because of all the options and I'm not keen on having to use media converter to generate an Mp3 but.... The quality and fidelity of the recordings is unmatched! Comparing Hi-Q to Field Recorder recordings of the same event was night and day.

im a sound designer and recording person and some problems are looking for a good recorder and microphones to go with it. im talking about other handheld ones. but this app does give much more, considering i carry my phone all the time. i can use my mics with this using an OTG connector no problem and love the layout and way it works. absolutely worth the price. now if you will excuse me i have to go record some things ;)

T70%

It really really needs a user manual in English to enable me to maximise it's potential. Instead of just guessing what to do. However the developer is helpful & responsive to my enquiries .

T70%

I like how reliable it has been. Who knew that my phone had 6 mics in it!

T70%

Of many recorders I tried, it is first reliable and predictable. Also, GUI is like I myself designed it. Thank you.
