Modo - Computer Music Player for Android
Modo is a must-have for me and I always install it on any new device I pick up. Playback sounds great and it has an expansive feature list. My only gripes are that I wish that it could mute individual tracks like many other VGM players and that it could play .usf files. Still the best of its kind though!
It gets the job done, I can play SPCs with ease, though it needs improvements on the UI, like a more user-friendly song data box and a more clear button to pick a file. There are some annoyances with the app: when paused the prev./next. buttons aren't available (they are on the status bar), the next is that a list with the songs within a folder, RSN, etc. is missing, it would ease navigation. I'll suggest more as the dev improves these aspects because character limit.
I tried updating another VGM player but it completely messed up my phone. This one actually seems a LOT better volume and quality wise, especially with NSF files. Would love even more if BRSTRM format became supported!
Thanks for this friendly and stable app. I listen to SIDs with it and they sound good. Caught me off guard at first because it was playing only the first three minutes of a SID track which was not in songlength database. Nice decisions in it, e.g. when you pause track and hit back button, the app terminates.
Good Player with lots of options (e.g. fadeout, silence detection), but buggy. I created a couple playlists with hundreds of tunes, restarted my phone, and the playlists were gone. And one playlist I had deleted was back. So, be careful, you might lose your work.
I don't understand music lenght, as the melodies repeat themself if you put a higher time to play. But how to know from the program what lenght a melody has in reality ?
Is a nice well presented player. Only criticism is the emulation of the C64 sid seems a little inaccurate when playing Lightforce by Rob Hubbard, but most sid players have issues with that tune.
When I downloaded this before your last update, i couldn't pause or control what songs I could play. I gave you a two before. Now its much better. I knew I'd love it if I just waited for the fix. Thank you.
I remember years ago, fantasizing about how great it would be to be able to emulate music on a portable device. Wishes do come true! Of course, it makes me wonder... Which is more efficient: convert chiptunes to mp3, or emulate them?
This will play SPCs / Other Vgm. There are no ads and no limits. As is. Enable Fade in and Fade Out for quick jump track issues. Also be sure to extract your Vgms in a new folder or compress it into a zip. Theres even an option to disable fast forwarding by mistakes.
fantastic app! only problem i have with it, however, is its tendency to completely skip over tracks. hope this issue gets fixed!
Nice app. Does what it says, but can you add an option to make the NES output in mono? Some of my NSFs sound a bit odd when the pulse channels are on either side of my ears. Please improve the emulation as well. Overall, a nice and reliable app for my chiptunes, but has room for improvement.
Erratically skips songs, has gotten worse over time.
The interface is way better than DroidSound, but DroidSound can play a much larger fraction of my collection than Modo can.
This is by far the best music app on Google Play! A visualizer and MP3 support would be nice, but only as a matter of convenience. Keep up the good work!
I was able to play my RSN files with ease. Thank you so much for giving me the ability to listen to my music from my smartphone.
Works decently, but it lacks 7z support and looping starts from the beginning of the song rather than the loop point.
Could you put an equalizer in this app so the music can be adjusted to the listener's preference?
Plays everything I've tried in it, including .ay zx spectrum files.

Very good
This is now officially the best spc file player, but I've noticed a minor issue. When selecting a track to play, it sometimes stays paused and you have to manually go in and hit play. Also, you can't go to next/previous track when paused. Other than those issues, still my favorite retro sound player.
Better music through the HVSC collection and other console soundtracks than any beat buying DJ can put out.
I not only liked the player's capabilities, but also the UI - it is fairly good. I have a feature request: The ability to change tempo of NES tracks. I spent my childhood playing on a clone which played games (and thus, their music) much slower than the original NES. This facility is supported in Nestopia (a very famous desktop emulator). Will appreciate any consideration for this feature.
The ability to set the AMOUNT of stereo separation in mono audio formats is the BEST (10% seems to be the optimal setting). NES games never sounded so good! Much thanks!
With the addition of independent fade in/out and pause on disconnect, it's nearly perfect. My only real complaint is unintuitive subsong support for trackers.

This is the only one I tried though...
How does this app works??????
Nicr
I'm only holding back the fifth star because I think there's more potential to be squeezed out of this. Confirming what someone else said, vgm/vgz songs do not loop correctly. When they reach the end, they play an extremely short snippet of the correct loop point, and then they cut back to the very beginning of the song. WORKAROUND: the songs loop correctly with alternate loop enabled, but they will last for 99 minutes.
Had a try on it, but ui is not my favourite. Seems to rely only on playlists which is not my style. Unfortunately found ZXTune before which I think is a lot more advanced and flexible. Plays at least double as many formats esp. .DBM. Anyway nice to give Modo a try just to compare.

Okay, maybe a couple of problems. First, separate fade in and fade out settings - I know I prefer to have no fade in, but a few seconds of fade out. Second, the latest update seems to have broken the stereo split setting; no matter what I set it to, it always plays as if it's split 100%. Really disorientating.
I really like this app. I just wish that the app had the ability to convert a music file to a wav or mp3. I think that would be really cool and would make this app perfect. I don't know if you still update the app or not but if you do, please add this feature.
Loving this app. The only thing I would add would be the ability to shuffle through random tracks without having to go through an entire chiptune file before the next one is loaded. This can be done by adding individual tracks to a playlist, I know. But having this feature out of the box would give this an instant 5 star.

In terms of emulating the soundchips from the consoles and tracker modules, it does a very decent job. The only criticisms would be the lack of quality and accuracy when playing some of the advanced SID files, which is possible with other apps, plus the music not being paused when the headphones are disconnected. It leads to a lot of questions about what kind of music I listen to :-P
The only request that I have for the developer is that a feature be added that pauses playback when headphones are disconnected.

Easy to use and works well. Would loved it if there was an option to select all the files in a folder when adding songs to a playlist. Are there any plans to add other formats? I was attempting to add all the main entry Mega man games into a list but found out it doesn't play PSF files (PlayStation) nor does it play MP3 files which are the only options for music from newer systems. Great program either way, but these extra features would make it perfect.
