About TouchDAW free

Demo version of TouchDAW, a full-featured DAW controller with some general purpose MIDI tools. Lets you remote control popular DAW software as known from standard hardware control surfaces.

This is a MIDI controller! The app does not itself play or record audio!

Supports Cubase / Nuendo, Live, Logic, Pro Tools, Sonar, FL Studio, REAPER, Reason, Studio One, Samplitude, SAWStudio Digital Performer (7.2+), Vegas / Acid, Tracktion and Bitwig workstations. Standard functionality like mixer and transport operation will be accessible in other applications with basic control surface support as well. As of version 1.1 the app can also send MIDI Machine Control (MMC) in parallel with or alternatively to standard DAW control.

Besides control surface emulation, the app brings a number of general purpose MIDI controllers, such as a multitouch MIDI keyboard, multitouch launchpads, a MIDI mixer, configureable xy-controller pads and the possibility to link a phone's sensors to MIDI controllers.

TouchDAW works with RTP or multicast MIDI over WiFi and is directly compatible with Apple's Network MIDI implementation in Mac OS X, Tobias Erichsen's rtpMIDI driver for Windows and ipMIDI (resp. multimidicast or qmidinet on Linux). There is no computer side server or protocol conversion software other than the driver required.
Class compliant MIDI interfaces are supported on devices with Usb host mode. Direct device to PC Usb connectivity is available both via the Android 6 MIDI Api as well as over tethered USB connections or ADB. A free driver, available from our website, is required for some of the proprietary solutions.

Please note that with version 1.6.5 the app has been officially feature closed and put into maintenance mode. We will continue to support it - adapt to changes in future Android versions, fix bugs where necessary, answer support requests that reach us via email or the app's website, etc. - but there will not be any more features added.

The apk contains both tablet and phone versions. You can safely ignore Google's "Designed for phones" tag.

The app needs some initial PC-side configuration. Please see website for help.

This is the feature-limited free version. Differences compared to paid version:

DAW controller:
- randomly disables 3 channels on tablet interface
time limited:
- recording, automation, saving, marker setting
- plugin, instrument and routing editors
- channel flipping on mixer

MIDI controllers:
- multitouch operation time-limited
- no floating transport controls
- sensors, MIDI mode and MMC time-limited
- limited octave range on keyboard
- only one standing note on launchpads

Apart from these limitations the full version is identical. If you have issues with the demo, buying the full version is NOT going to fix them!

Problems, questions, suggestions? Please use website or email. The Play Store's comments section is not a support channel and help calls you leave here will not be answered.

Way too complicated UI. I recognized some of it, but it's extremely user unfriendly. Everything is messy and has little to no guidance to use it.

It's great when you get it to work (HELPFUL TIP!) USE RTPMIDI for the PC. I couldn't get it to connect with Midi Hub. Save yourself some frustration.

B70%

Controlling Ableton Live 9 with a Galaxy tab A 2016 to windows 8 via rtpMIDI. Youll need to set up an adhoc network through the command prompt. DAW control and keyboard MIDI work great without much noticeable latency.

set up properly through rtpmidi and the current time does not work. so whne I am away from the sdcreen (in the booth) i can't tell if it's going or not...

U70%
by U####:

The mixer controls are pretty bugged. The sliders are arbitrarily greyed out and I have to keep swapping using the shift button to toggle a random amount of the sliders. It's pretty frustrating but I also enjoy the transport controls so I don't need to be near my computer to do stuff. I guess this is a 'feature'

Awesome app... linked up with FL Studio 12 in about 5 minutes... Some buttons dont do exactly what they say but after a few minutes I'm already figuring this thing out... Not sure how helpful it will be in actual production workflow, but I am getting the full paid version anyway cause I think it's awesome!!!

U70%
by U####:

3 hours later, YouTube videos, forums, tutorials, and I STILL can't figure how to set this up. This is by far the most difficult app to get working I've ever seen. Setting it up is not user friendly at all. I had to give up...glad I didn't buy it.

X70%
by X####:

Pretty useful, and somewhat easy to set up if you find the right guide (which can also be easily found on the web). Also, customizable UI for more adaptation for your specific DAW and workflow.

U70%
by U####:

This is not practical. It is too much hassle to set up and there will be so much latency due to the Wifi being the only means of connection.

Four stars for the false title... DAW=digital audio workstation! this is not a DAW if it can't produce sound...

C70%

If you cant get it to work its because you don't know how. Its quite tricky so i dont blame you, but once its set up its great. Definetly plunging into the paid version now

K70%
by K####:

Has great potential. I still haven't got it to communicate with anything but it's only a mater of time, (I'm a Linux guy!)

U70%
by U####:

The app does everything it says it does, and is an effective control surface app... in the academic sense. Realistically, the time it takes to set up and get running smoothly will take you longer than it would to just do the tasks through keyboard/mouse input. Doing automation passes in real-time via WiFi is pretty useless though, in particular. If you need a control surface for your DAW and you're serious about making some music, just save up and buy a physical/hardware one.

U70%
by U####:

Cant wait to purchase the full app. Though the setup requires a few stages on the PC; IF YOU'RE PATIENT AND ATTENTIVE to the instructions it will work perfectly. I have used it with Ableton live 9 on windows 8. This is one of the best DAW related apps on the playstore.

Sucks can't do a thing. Boo

U70%

Pros: Clean elegant interface. Cons: Convoluted setup. Rarely works. Almost €5 for the paid version, don't be funny.

It let me test to see if the paid version would work, it does what it's supposed to. I bought the paid version. IT IS A PAIN TO SET UP!!

Y70%
by Y####:

This is the most ridiculous things to set up. Wasted a day trying out all the different ways to make this work. None of them did, until I tried rtp using MIDIhub. There are a few bugs that cause sticky key press and sometimes sound doesn't play when using the keyboard or pads, then I hit play on the transport and all the presses play at once and then it works again... for the most part, after the headache of setting it up, this works quite well. Not better than hardware, but if you need a portable cheap mix

B70%
by B####:

Tried with logic 9 and after finally finding out how to setup, it turned out it's not capable of recording or playing either. Can't seem to arm tracks either, totally pointless and not worth downloading.

Y70%
by Y####:

Following the video on the support page how to use it with rtpMIDI and set it up in cubase thru WiFi it works quite well, surprisingly low latency, connected pretty easy and shows its potential. But with the record button and 3 faders unusable due to demo restrictions the demo itself became directly unusable for my purpose in mind: remote (read: next room) recording and transport.. Looks great and complete, full version should do the intended job quite well, and more, pitty its a demo

Y70%
by Y####:

It works sometimes using a Mac but sometimes it stop For Reasons Unknown. It's easy to setup but not very easy to use. It's bearable to remotely control play and rec. However the meters on the channel strips are useless even after calibrating

Y70%

Can't waiiit!!!!!!!! This Is So awESome!!!!!!!!!!!. Man it's one in the morning and i'm like a small child in toy store! :D:D

W70%

Instructions are too geared towards Cubase with limited resources for other programs... which means anything other than using the basic features is a waste of time.

Setup Mac for LG tablet via Bluetooth. You'll need to download, install and run MIDI Hub, and make connections within that utility on your Mac. Then set up peripherals in Pro Tools choosing HUI as protocol. Even though it was connected and the transport was working, I kept getting the PT warning that HUI wasn't connected, annoying, so I disabled warnings. Maybe a bluetooth problem? Transport worked, but no fader/pan. I know this is a free version, but since I wanted to try it out before I bought it, it would be nice if they allowed automation of ONE fader to see what, if any, delay problems it may have - bluetooth can be moody. But the layout is great and app seems to cover all functions. As a demo it could be better.
