About X-Link

The aim of X-Link is to make the copying of files between devices within the same WiFi network simple.
Available devices will be detected automatically. No setup is required.

The network has to support multicast messages for this to work.

In addition to the Android app there is also a PC client available (see below).

To receive files form another device simply start the app and make sure the switch is turned on.
To send files use the share functionality of your file manager app or image gallery.

Please post questions into the following XDA Developers forum thread:

PC Client
------------
The PC client is a Java (Java 6 or higher is required) application that works in a similar way as the Android app.
To send a file, select a recipient from the drop-down box and drag&drop the file (or files) into the window.

The PC client was tested on Linux & Windows.
According to user reports the client also works on Mac OS X.

this used to be the best app ever, but now it no longer actually functions. devices that used to use it to communicate are not longer able to recognise each other. Tested with multiple devices on multiple wifi networks.

Could not get it to work - no instructions could be found on what else needs to done on the PC or phone on devs website or in app.

Except, maybe, it's design, which doesn't match the greatness if the app

This is Android, the most useful option to remember is the "Share" function. Share to X-link in any file manager to send to PC.

I've tried it on both my HTC Sensation and G-Slate, it works great. It's also faster than similar apps I've tried of this type and less setup is required.

Could detect and send a file to my Milestone running CM7 without problem. However I didn't figure out how to send a file to the PC. Perhaps not possible? If not, that would be a very useful feature.

but not the Kindle Fire CM9. (Think its the Fire not the app) This application does NOT need fancy menus and pretty instructions and Mark, you should forget about giving 5 stars just for a menu! Its so simple its not funny. Only two things Id like to see 1. That it become promiscuous and 2. that it allow multiple instances simultaneously with other devices. Was able to send stuff from WIn8 to G2 and Win8 to G1 then G2 to G1 and then G1 to WIn8, so it was a full circle of sharing. Tried to send whole nandroid with 5 IMGs inside but failed -- the file needs to be zipped or cohesed for the transfer. Market ratings saying "doesnt work!" are absolutely pathetic and useless and the reviewer is the one looking silly.. not the Dev. kthxbai

I see great potential for this application. Need to keep in mind, this is still in beta so, there will be bugs to work out. I tried this on an Epic 4G Touch and Asus Transformer Prime. Downloading to both worked great. Was able to download to a specific directory. That was very cool. On both of these devices, I could not find any way to upload to my PC. There wasn't a menu of any kind to be found. This will be a 5+ Star application once the beta bugs are worked out. Thanks!

It works ok for single files, but if you want to transfer a folder (ex: music folder) the pc client part gives an error. I won't be abandoning my ftp client/server architecture anytime soon :

Pros: Very easy to use, when it works. Cons: a. Worked in first and 4th attempts, but not in my second transfer (after a successful one). b. Receiver does not stay up like with bluetooth or NFC. You have to open the app before receiving. Ideally, it should leave a listener service broadcasting in my network (previously authorized AP only), and calling the receiving app when there is a push request. Of course, this should use very low battery, or for example, only work when connected to power. This service should turn of when wifi is off it when not connected in my home wifi. c. No background receiving. If you move to another app before it finishes the transfer the connection will drop. If you open the app you will not see any sign of this transfer anymore. d. No resume. If you retry sending a file for which the connection dropped it will start from the beginning. e. Not as critical as the above:No log of past transfers. It would be nice, to have assurance of successful transfers when you leave your device alone during a transfer. This is the most similar to the awesome Giver app in Linux. Great potential for paid app if the author demonstrates dedication to it.

Fast.. Simple user interface... No problems working it with win 7 and my sgs4... Would be great if the transfer speed and estimated time was shown...

This is a very simple way to transfer files between your phones, tablets, and desktop / laptop machines. The PC client works flawlessly in Linux (and should work just as well on any platform with a JVM). It could use a service to put large transfers in the background (though it does keep working if you use something like SwipePad to launch another activity on top of it), and Tasker integration would be nice.

I now only use USB cables for charging! The PC client, which also works excellently for computer-to-computer transfers, has rendered my flash drives obsolete! Must-have software!

I wanted something like this for so long... file sharing so easy like simply pushing it on other devices (would work like blue tooth but faster speed...) but it won't very useful until Desktop client and Android client could be run in background...
