Phi.3D for Tango BETA

The most impressive app regarding 3D modelling for the Project Tango device. It beats the generic Constructor app by Google by a long shot. This app definitely showcases the potential for 3D modelling and where it will be headed in the future. The only issue with this piece of software is the finnicky nature of actually scanning, it will normally come up with a message reading 'Tracking Lost... etc.' and will sometimes be impossible to lose this message from the screen. I trust that DotProduct LLC will be able to optimise this issue however.

Finding a new issue, the auto exposure / compensation is different compared to before most scenes are registering as *very* high key and blown out, even in completely unlit conditions. maybe some manual setting for exposure values would help? Something has changed, as the software cannot get an orientation in a nearly all white scene

"Unrecoverable error: this version of phi.3d requires an internet connection". Apparently the one I used to download and install the app isn't good enough? What if I want to scan somewhere remote (ancient ruins) or underground (catacombs)?

First of all a big thank you to the guys at DotProduct, especially to Tom for the chance to test this app. It works really well and is a marked improvement over the base Tango Constructor app with noticeable increase in resolution and detail. The app itself is relatively simple to use and hosts a whole series of features including the ability to export to formats such as pts and ply. Would recommend anyone to give this app a try and to support the guys at DotProduct. 5/5

I can't even begin to say how amazing this app is!!! I am a contractor and find this app a pricless tool for aspects of my industry. Simply the best so far for any kind of 3d capture!!! Just brilliant!!!

I was about to drop the Tango dev kit on a project based on the quality of other apps but this product revived my interest. Very well done from start to finish. The video tutorials and extra plugin support really speeds up capturing accurate point clouds and getting results into other software packages. Would love to see a options for smaller object captures supporting the fiducial markers. Keep up the great work!

That's by far the most useful app I have in my Tango now. I'm an architect and have worked with laser scanning in the past. I have scanned a couple rooms with the app and the results are VERY impressive, overall the quality and precision on the point cloud are good enough for small projects that require some capture of existing condition. The optimization works really well too. The size of the .dp files are amazing, one room i scanned had 12 Mb in .dp and over 650Mb in .PTS. Overall I'm very happy with this app. Can't wait to see the final version.

This is a great app. We've tested it to use it on shoot to capture sets for measurements and camera positions to later use it for CG post prod. Can't wait to take that baby on a ride in reel shoot conditions.

I have managed to use this with meshlab to scan and isolate single objects quite well. Would be good to have a few more elements such as the ability to focus on a particular area like some sort of highlight tool so resources can be used to focus on what you want rather than indescriminate. If something requires more illumination to be scanned, maybe a hint or maybe for devices with a built in torch, access that to increase to what is required. Overall much better than constructor, lets hope future devices have higher resolution cameras to take full advantage, hope to be able to continue using this app when no longer beta now the 21 day trial has expired for me.

It is still a Beta, but at our advice (Google Dev Group Rome) it is the best tool for Project Tango that we tried. The optimization tool is great!

Scanning was good . I think if some option like texturing , quality vs performance options , scan sensitivity and scale add to It , it's going to be The best Tango 3d scan!

At this moment this is in the best 3D scanning app that is available for the Tango Project table, both in what regards point cloud resolution but also for easiness of use and stability.

Great software and capture, UI could be a little more user friendly but everything makes sense once you poke at it. The capture rate is very quick and of high quality, much better than the original demo from Google.

Really great app, very good post processing and accurate results - licence has expired and no coms from DotProduct for over a month now, so not sure what is happening - would like to extend license

Great app for Project Tango. Optimization routine is good. Interface is practical. Wish list: options for point cloud density over volume for covering bigger scenes. Protential killer app for Project Tango/Realsense phone for 3D Artists.

This is one of the best 3D scans app for Project Tango, love it! The developers are very friendly and nice too!

Requires a license file to be emailed to you before it will even work. Went to the website to get one and there is no clear way to do so. Still waiting for an email back. I give it two stars instead of one due to the potential, but this review reflects an end user experience. I will redo my review once I can try the software.

Best app on the market for reconstruction. Accurate and fast! Now if they would only sell this so I could use it productively.

Impressive app, one of the best on the tango tablet. Still lot of work to be done, but is pretty impressive. The "licence thing" is a bit boring. It would be amazing to be able to export in a "blender" format!

This app is very intuitive and easily exports your point cloud information into a format compatible fee and commercially available software for viewing and feature capture.

The app delivers great quality 3D models. I have successfully mapped many rooms in my house in real time. Optimization works like a charm.
