gMapsSpeed (beta) for Android
Very simple app. Easy to use and accurate.

This app alarms as you accelerate through user set speeds. It will drive you nuts. I want an app which uses the speed limit databases available to only alarm when I exceed the actual speed limit. Osmand maps nearly do it if you want to see what I mean.
I'll wait for an update and try it again.
Useless trial
Nice and simple. Though the position of the speedindicatorbox should be movable/positionable on the screen, you should include this feature!

The speed fluctuates up to 20kph up and down while vehicle is moving at a constant same speed. I have used other speed view apps and the speed reading was very accurate. Unfortunately those other app's do not have overlay to be used on Google maps, like this one does. But if speed is way out of wack, it is not useable.
After a recent speeding ticket for creeping over the speed limit unawares I decided to search for an app that could give warnings when you speed. Have seen some navigation software with road speed limits included, but these are at the around $50 mark and I'm happy with Google navigation. This is a perfect interim solution. Set the speed limits to 50, 70 and 100km and get a warning beep every time a speed is exceeded. A great constant reminder for when my speed slips. Thanks guys
Unfortunately I didn't notice another rating stating had to start before maps and that this keeps gps active even when not in maps
Need to show the roads ACTUAL speed also. I can see by looking at the dash my car speed but sometime you miss the signs or our in a new city
When mounted in a Motorola car dock the overlay disappears as soon as you launch navigation. Would buy Pro if it worked. Droid RAZR 4.1.2.
The application has quite a good premise, unfortunately I feel it falls short of that ideal. It doesn't actually use a database of the roads ACTUAL speed, but rather a best-guess. Overlay doesn't line up and I dont see a method how to make it visually appealing.
Worked great with my Motorola Droid, but now with the SGS3, the overlay doesn't quite align correctly with Google Navigation. Other than that graphical issue it works as intended.
Needs ability to set alarm up to 10 MPH over limit to be useful though.
Speed overlay blocks distance to destination time
Why does this app require permission to record audio?

I was looking for an app to place my speed on navigation and any other map for that matter. I have tried a few but this one has the best look. The small speed box is right above the 'time remaining' in the lower left corner of Gnav. No cumbersome interface like the others I tried. Dev is very responsive and helpful too, and that's always a bonus. I use this when I'm on my motorcycle with my phone in its cradle.
Radardroid blows it out of the water
I think with a little more polish this could be a must have app. Love the idea
Works well but needs some good tasker integration.
No ability to set settings in trial version. Pro version purchased only OUTSIDE of Android market. Asks USER for speed limit thresholds. No database.
I do not see the value of getting alerted on preprogrammed speed limits. Is one supposed to be alerted whenever he exceeds, say,15 20,25,35 etc?
Seems odd that it overlaps the arrival time. Makes it look poorly integrated, great idea but not liking the execution.
This looks "out of place" on the current version of Google Maps.
