Trhové Sviny - tourist guide

Trhové Sviny - the first written record of the town is from 1260, when it belonged to Ojíř of Sviny of Vítkovci family. Afterwards it had several owners and in 1359 came into the possession of the Rosenbergs. It was conquered and occupied, during the Hussite wars, by Jan Zizka. After the reinstatement to the Rosenbergs, in replacement of older privileges lost during the Hussite wars, the right of escheat was upheld to the town on 30.11. 1437, by Oldrich of Rozmberk. In 1481 King Vladislav Jagellon granted the town the right to hold markets twice a year, especially with cattle, which were taking place here until the 40s of the last century. Hence the town being known as Trhové Sviny.
