Jade Reader (Japanese Reader)

It's exactly what I was looking for. A simple text file viewer that has a Rikaichan-style lookup function. I would really like to see a font change option, but it's open source so maybe someone will add that.

If you find any epubs of JP novels you wanna read and convert them to text files, it can really help out.

Great app, lookup works really fast. This is a must-have app for reading Japanese texts on Android. The only thing I'd like added to it is the ability to see info about kanjis also, like their readings, not just the words. On rare occasions, the app can not find any words/does not recognize the verb's form with that particular ending, but I could still get the meaning/reading of that word if only I got to see the meaning/reading of the kanji. So I hope the developer will add this feature eventually.

I used to use this app a few years back, and found it to be promising, but disappointing. Boy am I glad I decided to give it another shot! I still find the ability to see pronunciations & definitions WHILE reading to be spectacular! The occasional glitches & crashes that used to be distracting are GONE. The app now remembers locations and allows bookmarking. Highlighting text is no longer awkward. Font sizes and colors can now be easily changed. Creating study lists for export to flashcard apps is now a breeze! I still wish we could choose to read vertically, and that we could view embedded pictures, but those are minor quibbles with what is overall an outstandingly functional study aid.

EXACTLY what I needed. The word guessing features seems very good to me, and that's a tough thing considering Japanese has no spaces. I am reading faster now because I can do everything on one screen. I'm reading Harry Potter book 1 in Japanese btw. Helpful app as I lost the freaking physical book!

APK manifest file should allow Marshmallow user to place that data on external SD

This program save me a LOT of time and make me able to enjoy a lot of novel, truly grateful.

I love this app. Being able to look things up with a single tap and without having to leave the text makes reading practice more fun and convenient. It would be a godsend if different language dictionaries were available alongside Japanese.

Thank you so much for the good app. I love it. It can be better if I can change the word selection, for sometimes the automatic selection is not correct. But you deserve 5 stars for what you have done.

Wonderful app and big thanks for making its source code free. I modified it to add Russian dictionary and made application "Nichiro reader" for Russian speakers. Now this program will be useful for even more people who study Japanese ^^ Thank you.

My only suggestion is to add a feature that enables reading in the traditional vertical format, as other reviewers have said as well. I still love the app though. ありがとうございます！

The app is simple and helpful, but the dictionary sometimes lists very obscure definitions before giving you the common one.

It has a better dictionary than kindle's . The interface is a bit simple but that's the last thing I need from this app

Text selection doesn't always work as needed, the app supports only txt/html, and yet it still deserves 5 stars. サンキュー(^o^)

Just an addition, it will be nice if you can show the title in japanese letter too

Very good. Just exactly what I needed. How do you make dictionary lookups happen so fast? Does it load whole dictionary to memory? One suggestion: pagination can help with hangs on loading (rendering) big files (>50kb).

It works ok. It would become even better, if it would be able to open other types of files (such as .pdf) Thanks for developing this.

If your somewhat serious about learning Japanese then this is must get

but still a bit rough around the edges. it had difficulty correctly guessing where one word ended and the next started, so it kept telling me it couldn't find some common words in its dictionary. I'm keeping my eye on it, though, it will be so wonderful when it gets the kinks worked out.

Great app. But please add a traditional vertical reading mode. Also more typography options like line/character spacing.

works as promised it could use a larger integrated dictionary but other than that no complaints

The dictionary is great and the UI is fast and responsive. This reader greatly increased my reading speed with the ability to look up words quickly. More file compatibility would be nice though.
