About MyPlate Tracker

The long-awaited PlateTracker is finally here. Quickly and easily track not only calories but also quantities of each food group so you can be sure you are getting a balanced diet on the go. See a list of what you eat each day along with quick-glance charts that compare actual consumption to your custom MyPlate food plan. It's easy to see, for instance, when you need to eat more vegetables and fewer empty calories.

There is so much more to healthy eating than just counting calories. Everyone knows that fruits and vegetables are much healthier than candies and sodas, yet calories alone do not capture that difference. MyPlate Tracker is about helping you achieve your goals of a healthier lifestyle by tracking what you eat, not just how much. Our methods are not backed by our own ideas, but by years of research that goes into the Dietary Guidelines for Americans published by the USDA.

This app gives users the ability to lookup their customize MyPlate food plan and provides basic information to help determine which foods belong to which group and equivalency tables. Users can enter their age, gender and physical activity level to quickly see the recommendations of Americas top nutritionists. The Daily Food Plan allows you to see how much of each food group you should be eating each day for a healthy, balanced diet.

The 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, form the basis of the federal government’s nutrition education programs, federal nutrition assistance programs, and dietary advice provided by health and nutrition professionals. The Guidelines messages include:

Balance Calories
• Enjoy your food, but eat less.
• Avoid oversized portions.

Foods to Increase
• Make half your plate fruits and vegetables.
• Switch to fat-free or low-fat (1%) milk.
• Make at least half your grains whole grains

Foods to Reduce
• Compare sodium (salt) in foods like soup, bread, and frozen meals, and choose foods with lower numbers.
• Drink water instead of sugary drinks.

What are users saying about MyPlate Tracker

by K####:

I must be missing something. It looks like it should do exactly what I want it to do: let me record how many servings I've had from each food group in a day. But when I say I'm "done", it takes me back to the previous screen without saving any of my entries.

U70%
by U####:

Half a day tracked and it all disappears. Not a good first impression. Now it doesn't even acknowledge when I add something and my calorie recommendation so high I would GAIN a lb a week! Poor app, I'm very disappointed in the YMCA for recommending it.

U70%
by U####:

Unfortunately, doesn't work. Can't enter anything, no food items come up when you type something in. Use the website. It's one of the only food trackers that gives detailed micronutrient information.

U70%
by U####:

Healthy plate idea is great. However, the app is so bad. Don't understand a thing. Users want to know how to make use of the plate of course. 0 mark for interfaces and user experience.

U70%
by U####:

The full site is actually very useful and fairly user friendly. I don't get why they have not made the app up to the same speed.

U70%
by U####:

I like the idea, but it says to eat 3 cups of Dairy, when Dairy isn't even all that great for you, I understand a lil of it for vitamin C and what not, what I don't understand is why it says you need to eat 2 ounces of processed cheese?? Um...why? Processed cheese is HORRIBLE for you! It can actually cause harm to your body, I think you guys mean that we should be eating is cottage cheese, gotta, ricotta, etc.

U70%
by U####:

Why do I have to know all the nutritional information on the app? The website is fantastic, I can search for my food and it has everything, why is this not an extension of that. I'm deleted this, what a waste.

Z70%
by Z####:

Not user friendly, the website is much more efficient and user friendly. It doesn't connect to your website account. Wanted it for ease of convenience and not have to use the website. Doesn't give you other of food options.

K70%
by K####:

The resources online through MyPlate are phenomenal and this app has none of that. It only gives average requirements and doesn't really personalize. There are not choices to select for food input (you must put in all nutrition information yourself). Other food trackers are so much better

D70%
by D####:

This app is exactly what I want: I put in what I ate, and how much in each category. No searching databases or entering a million details. BUT, it is so freaking buggy I can't stand using it. It doesn't save amounts if I change them after I create the entry, and it keeps autocorrecting words even after I create the entry, and switching the meal I enter it under. Fix these stupid little things, and I would say 5 stars.

K70%
by K####:

This is not as good as the events tracker on the government's website. The advance checker you just need to put in a food category such as bread whole wheat and then it gives you everything about the food. Compared to this this app is less likely to be useful and is a waste of time.

K70%
by K####:

When you go to the myplate website and use the tracker there, it is very simple and gives great detail in everything you put in with a myriad of options. The website suggests getting the myplate app, but the myplate app doesn't do anything like the website does except tell a person how much of each food group they should have. This app was a HUGE letdown. I hope in the future the app will be updated and offer ALL of the things the website offers.

S70%
by S####:

It is not intuitive at all, you have to input every item of food separately and always categorize it as whatever meal it was. It doesn't necessarily group all of the "lunch" things under one "lunch" heading, but rather it lists them all separately. I entered one item four times and it never did show up on my chart. Other issues as well, but these were within the first five minutes of trying to use it.

D70%
by D####:

You can set up the amounts you need, but the daily food input doesn't work at all. No matter what I type, it just goes to a white screen.

K70%
by K####:

It has so m a many options and let's you choose all the things you ate at school

K70%
by K####:

Gives you no info on the foods you eat. I'll stick with FitBit.

G70%
by G####:

There are inappropriate (pornographic) ads on it. I didn't even try the app because the ads were so offensive.

N70%
by N####:

Healthy food healthy families ♡♡♡♡♡

N70%
by N####:

I love the idea of this app but when I input my food it doesn't keep track of it :(

N70%
by N####:

I had waited forever for the websites supertracker to have an app. How disappointing! I need to adjust the daily calories allowed so I can LOSE weight. I have created dozens of "meals" on supertracker tediously inputting every ingredient for dinners I make often. All of that is inaccessible on the app. I can't create new "meals" with the app. I can't even put in that I had a tuna sandwich for lunch and have the app record the data for that food. Everything this app does, I can do with a calculator.

N70%
by N####:

Want to check my diet but can't get correct servings because I can't add that I'm pregnant to the settings.

N70%
by N####:

My dietitian recommends 2100 calories- and the app does not let me adjust it- I lie about my weight etc to get the app to 2100 but I want to be able to choose.

N70%
by N####:

no calories. Tells me I need 2400 calories a day but for what? to maintain my current weight? I want to lose weight.

N70%
by N####:

Needs to have how many of each food group you have left. Needs to have oils so you can track your things like butter or extras somewhere. A database would be good. But is easy to use. Best I've found for what I wanted.

N70%
by N####:

Would be nice if it was connected to the Food-o-pedia that you can access online through Super tracker. Also, it seems a lot of people on here are told that 2400 calories is optimum for them. Is that the default for everyone? How can I use it to lose weight? Finally, would be good if you could sign in and it would update on the pc where a lot of other options are available. A lot of potential here but as for now, that's the best thing about it so far.

R70%
by R####:

Not the same as online. Unable to sync with online .gov tracker

K70%
by K####:

I have used the online website and it is much more user friendly as well as filled out in areas that give the user all the options one could ask for. However, this app is a mini version of the simple aspect of it all where you just see what areas you need to focus on, how much to eat, and track. That's it. Doesn't allow customization or even the option to connect to an already created account/profile online which would be preferable. If they can just connect to your current profile and sync the data ;)

N70%
by N####:

The graphics are nice. You have to input all the nutritional information yourself and there really isn't any specific goals based on personal information.

N70%
by N####:

It gives you the calorie count to maintain weight but I'm trying to lose weight. I want to be able to customize calorie count.

N70%
by N####:

The whole point of apps is so you don't have to log into the website on your phone. But this doesn't sync with the website so either have to track in two places or just chose to log into the website. Another annoying government program.

M70%
by M####:

Total scam. Not the online site website tho they trick u into thinking it is. Same image and name but it isn't the same company. And app is crap. Stop tricking people into thinking your the same as the awesome site. When your just a crappy app not affiliated with them

N70%
by N####:

I'm having an issue with the scrolling. It won't let me scroll down so I only see half of the page. It's really frustrating. Please fix this.

M70%
by M####:

App is not counting calories or showing options for food selection. LOSE IT is better.

J70%
by J####:

I really thought it would be as good as the online version :( i used it before to lose weight its awesome but booo app no bueno !

M70%
by M####:

I was referred to this app but it is very clitchy. I entered all of my days stuff, and when I went back to look, it was ALL gone. Now, it is back but the percentages are off BC it won't update what I changed.

M70%
by M####:

This app does not work.

M70%
by M####:

When I enter food it does not show up. Why is this?

M70%
by M####:

But when input my meals it doesnt show up on my plate tracker.

M70%
by M####:

It keeps erasing things that I save. It's simple to use, but I'm not that impressed right now.

M70%
by M####:

Half a day tracked and it all disappears. Not a good first impression. Now it doesn't even acknowledge when I add something and my calorie recommendation so high I would GAIN a lb a week! Poor app, I'm very disappointed in the YMCA for recommending it.
