Zinio - Newsstand for Android
I previously wrote a review with complaints about slow function and unintuitive interface. I retract those criticisms. The lack of responsiveness appwars to be a huge number of issues downloading when i first installed tge app. The interface has some shortcomings, but now that the downloads have finished and the program responds, these are minor. The program works well and with a little use the interface becomes comfortable.
I have just purchased Reader's Digest International and the rest of my issues from yr 2014 are all gone and I haven't even read some of them! I have tried all the help to restore but it does not work at all. Will never purchase from Zinio again if my problem does not resolve.
This worked fine on my previous phone but since moving to a new S7 I can no longer login. For the past 2 months it tells me the server is temporarily unavailable even after resetting my password. So I have a subscription I currently can't use. My advice off this would be create an account and test the login before parting with any money. However prior to my current issue it would rate 4 stars.
The Zinio app works great but it has one big drawback, due to Google and Apple content restrictions, you cannot view your adult content. Zinio released their HTML5 online viewer but it still won't allow offline viewing in Android so why not just release an unrestricted Android version available directly for download on the Zinio website and the problem is solved.
I most often use Zinio to read magazines while travelling when I don't have Internet access to read online things. However, on several occasions Zinio has denied me access to magazines I have already downloaded because it won't open until I have logged into the server. I'M TRYING TO READ A MAGAZINE BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE INTERNET ACCESS. When I am most likely to need it, Zinio isn't available. Periodically, and unpredictably, Zinio denies me access to my magazines when I don't have Internet access, which is when I want Zinio the most. (this has nothing to do with the cache clearing problem mentioned in other reviews, it has to do with me not being able to read magazines while offline.) When my current magazine subscription runs out I will be removing Zinio from all my devices.
At first I was sceptical about subscribing to a magazine with zinio: are they legit? What if it's a scam? They are legit and I am glad I gave them a try. But I am most impressed by their customer service: they respond right away to my emails and have fixed any problems at once.
App is broken on my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. I haven't been able to login to the app for months. Error = "Encountered an issue with the server. Please try again momentarily". Uninstall then reinstall does not help. I have to use Chrome instead, which works fine. [UPDATE] Support is useless too. They suggest "fixes" which do nothing to help.
I love Zinio. But I've been trying to log into my account on my new device for 2 weeks now and all I get are server errors. I want to read my magazines! I contacted customer service and they were unable to solve my problem. I asked for a refund and they immediately stopped replying to my emails. No refund.
Zinio devs. Please give us a BULK DELETE feature. Right now to get rid of a TON of old issues we have to delete them ONE BY ONE. Do you know how painful a procedure this is?? Take a hint from the default Android photo gallery. It has a SELECT ALL function! Hope you'll fix this. Apart from that its a great app.
Written by morons, coded by imbeciles. What on earth are you doing? Can't access my library, here or on your equally dreadful website. I seriously hope you go broke.
Text not readable. Works on same resolution ios device and my one plus one but on galaxy tab s2 it's just a garbage. I was adviced to contact support on several occasions. The outcome of this is NOTHING has changed. Same pointless app. If you want to see how this suppose to work check ios. For windows and Android just dont bother and stop paying for their magazines. They dont care so why should you?! Btw the TEXT option is a joke. Text only fits the screen in horizontal position. Really? Really?!
UNFORTUNATELY..... 4GB(and growing) of real estate was too much, I was FORCED to delete my old issues! Give me the option to download my mags onto my SD card! I drive a truck and get all my mags on Zinio. I have it on my laptop & my Note 8.0! Never miss another issue.
Just awful. Each update brings a new low. We are paying a lot of money for the content, so we should be entitled to a good app. Wish there was another option. I would drop Zinio in a second... So slow downloading magazines. And seriously, no refresh button for getting the latest subscribed magazines? Tough, you just have to wait until they appear. Morons.
It takes too much room on my device. I would also like it to remove ALL files it downloaded, when you remove a magazine. It would be nice if you could remove multiple magazine's at once. If it had these memory saving options I'd give it 5 stars. Best customer support, they respond & resolve issues immediately and check back to ensure every thing is working.
As the title says, works well with local library and displays mags really well. Very nice. The only odd thing is that covers in Zinio for Libraries are crystal clear while the same covers in the main Zinio app are blurry.
It could be the best app ever, but there are too many bugs. I need to uninstall it and install again at least once per month, cause it simply stop working. I just keep using it cause for now there is no other app doing the same service.
Facebook login doesn't work. It just keeps loading indefinitely. Regular login does work though and I found Zinio's support team to be very responsive. There a still a few bugs in this app to iron out obviously, but those aside, this is a good app for reading your online magazines.
Issues with server communications seems to have been fixed, but now I cannot select the my local Singapore store. Also, the interface already looks old and dated. It would be nice to see a feature for multiple downloads implemented so as to allow users to download multiple issues at one go.
Works great when first installed. However, after one subscription cycle it returns server error, which forces uninstall & re-download of all magazines. Now I've updated my phone that has Android 7 & the app stops everytime I try to access my library. Makes it totally useless.
Can not log on with my tablet. Have sent an email and got no response. Customers service is apparently only responsive to public negative responses. I like the app on my phone and would like to use it on my tablet. Zinio please help.
Finally worked after a bunch of could not set up secure connection due to incorrect time on device (even though time and date are correct). Double click doesn't justify paragraph to screen width - very poor for a reading program. You have to punch to zoom and centre manually. Zoomed in pages are blurry for too long while rendering.
Still Drains battery by keeping screen on ALL the time. Read it in bed, go to sleep wake up to a dead tab as zinio kept the screen on ALL night. No other app I have on 6 Devices does that, unless its delberate for a purpose. So is Zinio doing it on purpose? Can not think why, a 1 hour timeout would cover most things?
This app just gets worse, every week I get a server error when I try to read the magazine I have paid for. I can't wait for the subscription to end so I never have to use Zinio again!
Just got a notice to download the great new android app. Wait till you see what their 8th grade class of programmers came up with! I defy you to see any difference!
Still get the same server issue message everytime. It's no wonder that half the reviews for this app are 1 star. Bravo Zinio, its 2016 and you have no idea what your doing.
Stopped working on zenfone 2 lastest update. the error is related with x86 processor. The query for processor type returns "abi: x86"" instead of x86. Please fix that, I love to read the magazines on my cellphone.
Galaxy S4 and Tablet 10.1 Cannot read my magazines. App won't load. Magazines won't download. Crashes all the time. Almost impossible to use. Considering uninstalling but have spent a lot on magazines. Please fix this ASAP.
Keep getting internal server error when I try to log into my account. I haven't been able to access my subscriptions for nearly a month
Worked great for awhile. Now for the last 3 weeks it won't bring up either of my subscriptions. Keeps telling me error with the server. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Still nothing. Very disappointing.
App looks like its from 5 years ago (but it was just updated a couple months ago). On my tablet, it smooth scolls vertically (awkward). There is no "page turning" so you end in between pages. You can see a table of contents and bookmarks. No other options.
I've used Zinio for a while. The big plus is that I can read my mags on different platforms. There are still some outstanding issues with it, such as the lack of saving my library to another location - or being able to choose, say, cloud storage. A recent annoyance is not being able to see a purchased magazine on my Android, even though it is listed on my Windows platform. Good selection of reading matter, though.
As soon as I can i will be cancelling all my subscriptions as this platform is unfit for purpose & it's marketing is woefully inadequate. It sends me emails with offers I can't activate. Shame really as the promise does not live up to real world expectations.
Still lacking most basic features, managing magazines is a nightmare - there are lots of magazine apps now. Use a different one.
Would like to read what I pay for when I'm offline. This is a huge inconvenience, and almost a deal breaker. Please consider allowing offline saving of magazines.
Lack of control over download locations. Terrible formatting. Why can't a magazine be read in vertical or horizontal mode?
No search or advanced sorting capabilities, can't use SD storage. Managing a large number of items in a library is an absolute nightmare. To remove older items from your library, you have to scroll to the bottom of the list, select an item, accept a confirmation dialogue and REPEAT FOR EVERY ITEM! Simply not workable. UPDATE: Use the website to manage your library - don't bother trying to use the app for anything other than reading.
One of the most convoluted dysfunctional apps I've ever used. Getting magazines onto it should not be this much of a pain. Completely ruins any experience of reading magazines on a phone or tablet. I usually end up reading on PC.
I first used this 5 years ago and little has changed. Downloading my library of mags is a painful experience with no option for doing this in batches, you have to add or remove each one individually instead of ticking a box and downloading selected or all. Zinio service is a great idea but there is so much wrong with this app it's impossible to list and to top it off zinio "support" is the worst I've ever encountered in 20 years dealing with tech support. This app needs a complete overhaul not sporadic "updates" that seem to make things worse if possible. AWFUL APP, AWFUL SUPPORT. I've emailed at least 10 times about this over a 5 year period and not one issue has been addressed. Back to paper mags until this steaming pile of crap gets a total rewrite.
Reading is good, but storage issues need fixing as most portables have very limited space. Thus needs to be able to store and work from ST card would get a 5 star

The search function is poor at best. Going back takes you to the beginning of the list, not where you left off. Refreshing your library is not possible. While relatively stable and reading what you've managed to get downloaded is great, this app is an exercise in frustration and was not well thought through our executed. Barely usable.
