About LocalPrint

LocalPrint allows you to print from your Android device without using any kind of cloud service! All data stays within your local network all the time.

For technical reasons, this app can't work on all printers (see below). If your printer is not supported, a bad review doesn't make much sense.

On Android versions > 4.4 (Kitkat), you have to start the print service manually after installing. Just start the app, tap on the "Service settings" icon, and set "zenofx.com LocalPrint" to "On".

On Android versions > 4.4 (Kitkat), LocalPrint integrates smoothly into the print menu. On older versions of Android, please use the "Share" feature offered by many apps and choose "LocalPrint". LocalPrint also brings its own file browser.

• Which printers are supported?

Most modern printers with one of the following characteristics are supported:

• Printers capable of PDF printing. This applies to most office printers (e.g. by HP) and most AirPrint laser printers.
• Printers capable of JPEG or PNG printing. This applies to most home laser printers (e.g. the Samsung CLX series) and more expensive InkJet printers (e.g. by Epson or Canon).
• Printers shared by a Mac

Currently most cheap InkJet printers are not supported, because they use a proprietary, undocumented print format. These printers are greyed out in the printer menu. If you need to use one of these printers, we recommend our cloud printing solution. Please search for "PrintBot" on Google Play.

• After installing the app, it does not appear in the Kitkat print menu (e.g. of the browser)?

On Android 4.4 (Kitkat), you have to start the print service manually after installing. Just start the app, use "Service settings" in the menu, and set "zenofx.com LocalPrint" to "On".

• The app finds my printer, but it is greyed out?

This means your printer is not supported. Your printer does not print one of the formats supported by LocalPrint.

• How can I remove the watermark from the printed page?

Just start the LocalPrint app and chose "Remove watermark" in the menu. Once you've bought "LocalPrint Pro", the watermark is gone. This is a one time payment, no monthly fee or the like.

• Why does the app need the permission for connecting to the internet?

Unfortunately, Android does not distinct between LAN and internet connections. So we need this permission to connect to your printer on your network. LocalPrint never calls any server on the internet.

• Why does Android warn about the documents passing "one or more servers"?

Android doesn't know how LocalPrint works.

Once I figured out where to set the printer service on in Android it worked. It would be nice to have more printer options like paper choices, paper tray choice, and duplex but that is asking alot. I can go to a computer for that. Nice job on this app. Better than Canon Print Services app, that app is goofy it will not print from the main paper tray. I checked, the Canon app is comptible for my Pixma MG5320. Glad your app worked.

I purchased pro version on an older device to remove watermark. When I installed on my new phone, my pro purchase was registered but watermarks continue to appear on all my prints, telling me to purchase the full version. Have emailed but no response from developer. There are better alternatives to this now anyway, at the time it was the only app that used kit kat's print service.

It just says "searching for printers" forever without ever actually doing anything. This is particularly dumb since I know the IPs of my printers so it shouldn't be searching in the first place.

Manual setup is a BASIC required feature. Not every network allows the highly unsecure UPnP, or SSDP protocols. This app couldn't find any of almost 300 printers on a campus network. Each printer has the IP address listed on the control panel, but that's useless without a manual setup.

I hoped this app would allow me to find, connect to, and print to my networked printer, but I could never get it to work. Before trying a third party app, try searching for a plugin from your printer's manufacturer (HP, Brother, etc.). I had success on the first try when my printer's manufacturer finally provided one. 3 stars for making the effort to try to help people for free.

Couldn't print with this plug in sure to inability to add printer manually. Would be much better if it worked like sister app, PrintBot.

This app does not work with any printer. The sister app 'Printbot' is also a scam I paid for that too an can't print anything. Btw I use a galaxy s4.

Working with my linux print server - cups (configured for local net allow, printer defined as shared), avahi, airprint-generate, iptables rules. No need for Printbot if mDNS is working - just turn on Localprint service, do discovery and choose the Airprint service with your queue name. That said, it works perfectly on a KitKat stock Moto G but I get no printers found on my GS4 CM11 KitKat (Printbot works with a hostname but I do not want cloud interaction). mDNS seems broken somehow on some phones.

You actually need PrintBot to set up your printer in LocalPrint. Why they neglect to explain this is beyond me. Otherwise, LocalPrint will scan for printers forever. It was ridiculous that I sat for 10 minutes while it scanned a 5 station LAN! Use PrintBot and directly enter your printer settings and you'll be fine...

Gave it a try, it detected my printer (samsung scx-3400) over WiFi pretty quickly, but won't print anything. The printer is listed but greyed out when I go to print a pdf from the email client. No problems with same printer from the desktop nor laptop. I could not find any FAQ nor support, so I finally gave up. Oh well.
