About HomeRunTV

Note to Prime device users: The way this app gathers its channels requires the 20120405 firmware or later. If no channels show up please go to your prime device's webpage and under "Channel lineup" click on "Detect Channels" then try the channel scan again.

Stream live TV from your HDHomeRun device to your phone or tablet. (Unprotected, copy freely channels only)

This application will allow you to stream live TV to your android phone or tablet. It can be streamed to your device in 1 of 2 ways.

1. Directly from the hdhomerun to your device. This requires a strong network connection to your device (wireless N recommended) and a powerful enough device to decode 1080i video.

2. Through the HdhomerunStreamServer. This uses VLC to transcode the video to a lower bandwidth.

This application can also help you diagnose signal issues. You can view the signal strength of any channel and even graph the signal strength over time. Up to two tuners can be graphed at the same time.

For direct to device streaming you'll need a video player that can decode MPEG2 on your android device.
Recommended video player:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.abitno.vplayer.t

MX Player users: You must setup MX Player to show the quit button in the menu and use that to leave MX Player otherwise MX Player will hang the next time you view a channel.

For streaming through HdhomerunStreamServer you'll need a video player that can decode H.264 video. Most devices have one built in but if it doesn't you can use this one:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.inisoft.mediaplayer.a

Note: This app can only play unprotected, copy freely channels.

Works with original hdhr on ice cream sandwich, KitKat and lollipop. Stopped detecting hdhr and had to uninstall and reinstall to get it to work again. Needs vlc player to play video. Pretty good for free.

Works, unlike the official app. If trying to watch the same channel on TV and the phone, phone gets choppy, but this may be due to signal strength and not the app, just not sure. Casts over Google cast just fine as well using screen cast, so that's nice. Good job on this app

This app is a must have if you have an old model of HDHomeRun tuner, I can see all OTA broadcasts by using any of my android devices to get free TV channels, forget about subscribe cable service, however, it will make this app to be much greater if we can manually specify the server box IP in order to work cross sub-networks, which is crucial for using it through VPN.

Great app. Works very well just really really needs an EPG to go with it. I use this with hdhomerun tuners and mx player. DVB-T and free view antenna. No problems on note 8,tab 10 or HTC phone.

Works well in conjunction with the VLC media player. Lets me scan TV stations to see tropospheric events.

I got this working on my Asus tf101, Acer a500, LG Spectrum 2, and Samsung Galaxy S4. HD channels are a little sluggish but I can stream directly to all of my android devices.

As others have noted there is no manual configuration option. It uses a L2 discovery mechanism exclusively, leaving those of us that have a different subnet for wireless with a useless app.

User errors on my part seem to be the reason I have been having problems with this app. Once I got a vlc player up and running things got better. If I can get it to play like it once did I can give it more stars.

Now it w will not play video at all. Please fix asap

Doesn't have guide info and channel logos like the official HD HomeRun app. However, official app cant stream hd channels without horrible lag and stammering. This app streams through MX player the channel u select and it plays smoothly on HD. Annoying to have to simply go by number, but it works.

This app is too slow to use to watch television. I only use it to test the tuner. Lost the ability to play sound randomly and can't seem to recover it. Overall disappointing.

Excellent tool for comparing signal strength on two different tuners. Also great to switch channels and kick off another program like the VLC to watch TV.

Works nicely on fire tv with remote. Eveyrthing is great but the play button is not accessible by remote. Every other part of the app works with remote (would work with any remote) any chance to add play button to be accessable bh a remote ? Thanks!

I like this software, I use it with VLC for Android. Works well on my Nexus 5, Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5, Tronsmart Vega S89, and el cheapo Q7 Android TV Box. It could do with improvements though .. e.g. I can't find a way to play a channel by using the keyboard.

On Galaxy Tab 3 have issues where play will pixelate, stutters, and audio drops. Exiting player and then back it will work again. Adjusting MX player settings did help some but not 100%. Simple interface not many features or settings.

This is a Phenomenal app and must have for user of HD Home run Prime or other. Lot's of customizing options with good GUI. To stream HD content 5G frequency is a must. Don't even attempt with 2.4. AC connection on both ends will feel seamless.

O70%

Wow, works with my ancient HDHR! I wish there was a guide and a channel browsing gui. Would be willing to pay for that as a separate fair (but not a monthly fee).

The app was working nicely on our two tablets. However, after the most recent update, there was picture but no sound. After some experimentation, I found that if I click the button for Spanish audio, then the the audio turns on-- the audio is in English not Spanish so I guess you cannot get Spanish audio (weird). However, there is still a problem because not all channels and shows have the Spanish option. Please fix this

This app is great. I was streaming OTA channels from my HDHomeRun to my Nexus 5 in about 3 minutes. While the video player isn't integrated, it works seamless with MX Player. Keep up the good work!

Pretty good on the nexus 7 but has issues with sound using MX Player. Also could do with a guide listing.. It would only need immediate and next on. Apart from that good work guys

S70%

Latest update, around Dec 20, made sound disappear on my nexus 7 using mxplayer. It used to work fine. Catastrophic bug. I know this software is not expensive but people rely on it to work. Now it does not. Hence one star.

I bought this thinking that even if it didn't work, it was worth a $2.99 gamble. I ran a scan, and the app picked up all the channels we get with our HDHRPrime. Most channels are listed as encrypted, but they play anyway. I got a message "Your prime devices Cablecard is not set up properly. A channel scan for Clear QAM channels will be performed". This doesn't make sense, because I can watch all the channels, even the one needing the Cablecard. I think there may be some kind of bug in the HDHR software - my HDHR Prime status page states "none" instead of success for Cablecard Activation and 0 channels for all 3 tuners, both untrue, so it might just be that the status page incorrectly reports the information and the HomeRunTV app grabs and uses the same incorrect information. Long story short, (and I'm putting this too-technical information in here because it might prevent some premature refund requests and reassure purchasers) it worked for every channel I tried, SD & HD, and if you were technically proficient enough to set up a HomeRun Prime on your computer you should have no problem getting it to work with your phone. I use Vplayer with it.

We've had this for a while. It works flawlessly on Nexus 4, Nexus 7 (1st version) and Nexus 10 using VR player - our only gripe is that VR is constantly begging for money. It really does need a good network connection, we use 5GHz wireless N where possible. The Nexus 7 doesn't do 5GHz, and it stutters quite a bit when a long way from the router (Airport Extreme). I wish that there was a way to use it with ChromeCast

I have the 2013 Nexus 7 and a Note 2 and both just show the connecting screen and never connect. On the off day it does connect, the audio lags behind and starts breaking up within 2 minutes.
