Broadband Measurement

The broadband measurement enables you to measure the speed of your Internet access quickly and easily and thereby determine the performance of your fixed and/or mobile broadband connection. Provider-independent and technology-independent measurement is possible. The test allows you to compare your broadband connection's actual data transfer rate with the contractually agreed data transfer rate. The broadband measurement can be carried out independently; the measurement results can be stored electronically.

The test has been developed by zafaco GmbH on behalf of the Bundesnetzagentur.

The broadband measurement is based on the transparency specifications set out in sections 43a and 45n of the Telekommunikationsgesetz (German Telecommunications Act). The aim is to enable end customers to compare scope and quality of telecommunications services easily. The statutory provisions therefore provide, among other things, that the Bundesnetzagentur can carry out its own measurements or develop aids so that end customers are able to undertake independent measurements.

In 2012 and 2013, the Bundesnetzagentur had already carried out nationwide measurement campaigns, in which Internet users were able to measure the data transfer rate of their Internet access service. The results of these measurements were included, in each case, in a study on the "Quality of Service of Broadband Internet Access". The broadband measurement uses the maximum available bandwidth for the entire duration of the measurement. Please note that data traffic may also cause high costs, depending on tariff and in the case of international roaming.
