InspectDroid

Android ecosystem is vulnerable to the permissive evolution of malware and spyware. To defend these malicious attacks, users need to properly utilize the permission control system. It deals with visible permissions (in the manifest.xml) and hidden issues (UID forgery, Backdoor) caused by services.

In this work, we provide permission management method. First, users choose from one of the three levels: Low, Mid, High as the protection degree. Second, users could modify items in the Black/White/Gray lists of permissions. Third, users could view the valid permissions list in the current security level, and then feel free to edit the list. Fourth, users could scan their Android devices to see whether malicious threats are found: scan app permissions and scan running services. Once threats are found, press "Menu" for instructions and strategies.
